[Highlight] (Full sequence) Tatum takes a scary fall on his back late in the game after a physical play from Martin, Heat and Celtics players have to be separated by officials. Multiple technicals called (with replays) Highlight

He never even put his hands up in an attempt to block the shot! 🥵 Flagrant

So Jrue pushed martin with enough force to lift him off the ground...2 steps later? What are you all seeing.
4
u/Not_You_247 Trail Blazers 25d ago
A whole lot of nothing here. Martin got shoved by Holiday resulting in the collision that left Tatum on his back. You can even see Martin turn to check on Tatum until Brown had to get in there to protect his guy and the escalation starts.

At this point why not just forfeit this series? The Heat are garbage anyways, it’s pointless.

Clearly pushed by Jrue. Lets not start being stupid.
12
u/betweenthebars34 25d ago
Yup. That, plus 2 players are in between him and Tatum as they're both focused on the rebound and aren't looking around and moving towards it, very quickly. The last chance either could actually fit a head turn in there, happened then. So now they're both fixated on the ball. Collide. All in just seconds in a playoff game.
Too late on the stupid though, no one's interested in anything other than the obvious jokes and getting engagement even if it's meaningless karma.
And they all react to every influencer or media head trying to get their engagement with an impassioned take on this.

u/HuellHowser69 25d ago
I’m confused by all the comments in this thread. Holiday clearly shoves the guy in the back. That’s why he runs into Tatum. This was a dirty play by the Celtics. Fuck Boston.

LMAO, mods removed that overhead angle that 1000% shows Martin being shoved into Tatum by Holiday. Guess it wasn't "high enough quality" or some bullshit

So....
Are we seriously just going to ignore the fact that Jrue Holliday shoved Martin into Tatum? I mean, it's pretty obvious what happened. When you are running full speed and the opposing player shoves you with two hands, it's going to make things like this happen. I know history isn't on Caleb's side but we can't just ignore the obvious

Watch the play again. Jrue Holiday pushed Martin into Tatum. That was totally not Martin playing too physically.
If anything, there should have been a foul on Holiday.
I'm glad Tatum was ok.
-1
u/Acrobatic-Piccolo906 25d ago
Yeah that play was suspect! I’ve played basketball for all my life and have coached. This doesn’t look like a natural basketball move. This was dirty
6
u/nuwde 25d ago
I can't believe no one is seeing this.
Go to 35 seconds and you can see a clear push from Jrue that completely redirects Caleb right into Tatum. Secondly, Caleb's immediate reaction to check on Tatum is so instinctual here that it is hard to fake.
I'm not excusing any dirty plays from the past, but in this instance it does not seem intentionally dirty. And I'm not taking anything away from Tatum because for all he knew, it was dirty. Good on him for not getting into it and I'm glad he isn't hurt.

Can’t believe this is a thing, the Boston guy pushed him in the direction he was going, Tatum came around Martins blind side so he didn’t know Tatum was there. The way Martin reacted clearly tells the story, anyone that knows the game even a little, anyone that has played the game knows that a reaction like that says “it was unintentional”. If you purposely dump someone you don’t instinctively reach out like that, it’s not what you do.
Put it all together and you have a normal basketball play. If this happened in mid February nobody is talking about it, nobody!

-2
u/IndecisiveAHole1 25d ago
People say Holiday pushed Martin. There was a little push but it was nowhere near a shove that would force that much momentum on Martin. At the same time Martin had his eye on the ball the whole time and Tatum went up at the same time. Really don't feel this was intentional.

Damn these comments are fucking nasty as hell.
Ya mad af that a team with Jimmy and Bam been busting ya ass in the East for that long? Accidents happen, Martin was even going to help Tatum up…
And this is not even mentioning that “dirty” plays happen to literally every team in the NBA. Celtics fans should know especially when KO dislocated Love’s shoulder, Josh Hart to Jimmy’s Ankle, etc. sometimes plays end up worse than they should be. But the Heat getting this label seems to me that it’s fabricated by Bucks, Celtics, and Knicks fans in order to explain their poor performances in the postseason.
And I know I’ll get downvoted to hell by these fan bases.

u/Son_of_Atreus Celtics 25d ago
Dirty as fuck.
Martin knew EXACTLY what he was doing, ‘contesting’ for a rebound by jumping into the opposing star players back when the game is totally over.
This is the same fucker who intentionally went for Brunson’s ankle on a 3 point jumper cause he was pissy.
Tillman should be in to road house this coward.
0
u/Phenom_Mv3 25d ago
No one here is mentioning Tatum went up for that rebound super lackadaisical thinking no one would contest him for the rebound because the game was over, which probably caused the surprise hit between the two, because he completely unexpected someone from the Heat to go for the O board. That’s Miami, though, they play the entire clock with max effort regardless of the score. That’s how it is in the Australian league.
If Tatum actually boxed out that never would have happened, but since the league has become soft, teams give up and let that one go and 99% of the time that’s an uncontested rebound

Do you not see Jrue, Tatums own teammate literally push Caleb into him?
2
u/T1nkyW1nky_ 25d ago
Jrue had both Arms extended and the way it panned out based on replay is that he fell asleep on the box out. Understandable, the game was already over. Caleb Martin was running full speed, Jrue reacts late trying to prevent him from getting the board. Eveybody saying it was a push, I say it was actually a pull. That sudden interference in Caleb's speed, caused him to miss the timing of his jump. Hitting Tatum who was already elevated, while he was still accelerating.

I honestly don’t see much than a hard foul. He was trying to box him out for a rebound, unfortunately Tatum was in the air and he got into his landing space. Miami plays hard and so do all teams in the NBA. I don’t hate Celtics but playoffs are hard fought. There are several hard fouls in the playoffs that have caused injuries, I know one which was near career ending. Not sure why all of this support for Celtics. Jalen Brown made it worse by shoving the heat

From what im seeing in the comments, it sounds like this isn't the first time Martins been involved in situations like this, however does Jrue not push Caleb into Tatum? I saw a couple people point that out in the replay, but that is still a very scary fall.

Welcome to the 2020s where drawing charges is deemed as “dirty” and people want it banned. Basketball fans got soft as fuck
1
u/Confused_Armadilo 25d ago
Oh and by the way. I am pro charges if the player is on the floor. But you are right, I am very much against "taking charges" of players who are in the air!
1
u/Phenom_Mv3 25d ago
So you actually think they have the cognitive processing speed to determine when a player is in the air and then set up for a charge? You’re delusional. All it takes is a split second early or late for that to occur. Very common with offensive fouls
1
u/Confused_Armadilo 25d ago
Oh, so you do want to have the game to be played in a way where the best players can face seasons/career injuries by way less good players in the face of "playing hard" 🤣🤣🤣 GTFOH
1
u/Phenom_Mv3 25d ago
You sound like you’ve never played a sport in your life. Drawing a charge btw puts that persons body on the line too not just the offensive player
0
u/Confused_Armadilo 25d ago
Okay.... I love playing sport, and to put my body on the line because I'm very competitive. Just not in a way that can injure someone else...
Well, easy fix. Extend the restricted area. You know, the place where people are jumping to the basket

What’s interesting is this happens coming out of a late game blowout heat timeout where Spo didn’t take it to remove the starters like a normal organization would. Not saying he gave a code red like Scal said on the Celtics post game but it is a interesting coincidence that could warrant looking more into
2
u/heatrealist 26d ago
Why you crying about the Heat starters when your team was up near 40 and your starters remained in?
Your own player pushed Martin into Tatum. Keep projecting.
2
u/Friendly-Question-60 26d ago
For everyone saying this is dirty, you can clearly see Jrue push him for no reason in a way that causes him to get off balance and run into Tatum,
If you’re gonna be mad at anyone here be mad at Jrue lmao this was not a dirty play
0
u/MacGruber__KFBR392 26d ago
Really not that bad of a fall, first off - probably gonna hurt for a little while, but scary? Come on. And secondly, not seeing any malice in this play at all - Holiday actually pushes Martin toward/under the basket as he’s crashing the glass, and Tatum happened to be there - timing happened to be that he was in the air while Martin bumped him. Jaylen Brown is sticking up for his teammate because he didn’t see the push. I feel like if your own teammate who gets fouled doesn’t react negatively, then shut up and play ball

u/l31fm3al0n3 26d ago

If the NBA had a policy of not suspending the person who responds to a dumbass play like this, this wouldn't happen because if you tackle someone, the responder has a full license to lay you out. This sounds crazy but current policy allows a bench warmer to lay out a star and if players responds all of a sudden you have Celtics getting suspended and there's an advantage for the Heat. It's a loophole that puts Tatum in danger

The thing that is driving me crazy is the Heat fans trying to justify this play by saying Jrue pushed him. Caleb was at no point playing the ball and it wasn't a basketball play at all, the ball bounced straight up and Caleb never went straight up he just kept running forward. If you are going to be a dirty team then atleast own up to it, that would be more respectable then pulling this dirty shit and then lying about it after and trying to act like it was just unfortunate bad luck. Jrue didnt' even push him he just put his arm out for a regular box out, Caleb is too much of a scrub to be pulling this crap. NBA needs to send a message and suspend him a game
