I'm hoping to be surprised.  But really think Jon Hamm should have be picked for Frank Drebin.  Better comedy chops

1

u/MarBoV108 14d ago

There is very little chance this is good based on the fact they are rebooting an old movie and not coming up with something original.

1

u/RockstarGTA6 14d ago

I heard he might go to the lakers

1

u/Thwipped 14d ago

Dude is underrated

1

u/W8kingNightmare 14d ago

The ONLY reason I am not balking at this is because I like Liam Neeson and I that I saw that skit of his on improvisation, it was funny as hell. I think he might be able to pull it off

The skit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2Co0lvFUAo

u/SaintHazelwood 14d ago

Been a fan since Mystery Alaska and also Smokin Aces.

3

u/Kaiserqueef 14d ago

Literally zero reason to remake this.

Lesley Neilson was untouchable in this role. The best spoof comic of all time starring in the best spoof movies of all time…

STOP RUINING THINGS

2

u/Dutch92 14d ago

Loved to hate him in lost

1

u/JametAllDay 14d ago

We don’t need this

1

u/patronoftheArtss 14d ago

For some reason the way this guy looked used to creep me out.

2

u/bwoodcock 14d ago

Well...it's got one of the correct writers. Out of 3. I'll watch it, but I'm definitely not getting my hopes up.

1

u/zestzebra 14d ago

Another remake 😐

2

u/justtryingtounderst 15d ago

I always thought he should have played Negan

2

u/sinhglonnev 15d ago

Who's  reprising OJs character

2

u/Bayuze79 14d ago

Too soon?

1

u/Totinos160count 15d ago

When I was a kid I would get Liam Neeson and Leslie Nelson confused all the time. When I heard of the remake I was like fuck yeah I couldn’t believe it. Then I found out it was Liam and not Leslie and Leslie died years ago. Very confusing.

1

u/JeffBoyarDeesNuts 15d ago

He hit on my ex girlfriend once.

Great in Lost, though.

1

u/FelopianTubinator 15d ago

I can’t wait to see him as Nordberg.

2

u/Taurnil91 15d ago

"My Next Chapter."

Guess he's running away from a losing team and into movies now

1

u/BBQFatty 15d ago

What’s wrong with his eyes

1

u/K5izzle 15d ago

Easy Funny Sniper

2

u/nomad_nessie 15d ago

Dude was awesome in the strain

2

u/nerdmoot 15d ago

Completely unnecessary cash grab.

1

u/TheWorstKnightmare 15d ago

I’m just waiting for the Nordberg casting, NEED Marshawn Lynch

1

u/JustAnotherJoeBloggs 14d ago

NEED a brick shithouse.

3

u/Arts_Messyjourney 15d ago

I know this film got greenlit because Liam Neeson name looks like a misspelled “Leslie Nielsen”, and you can’t convince me otherwise!

1

u/meemboy 15d ago

They should cast David Lynch in the naked gun movies

1

u/Upper-Life3860 15d ago

Is he gonna play OJ’s old part?

1

u/comfortablydumb2 15d ago

There are some movies that shouldn’t be rebooted and this is one of them.

1

u/Flimsy_wimsey 15d ago

Got excited about the Liam Nissan and naked in the title before I comprehended the rest of it, and now i'm just so disappointed.

1

u/sincethenes 15d ago

Wait remake?! I thought this was a new story?

4

u/gabriel1313 15d ago

“Mom, can we go see Kevin Durant play tonight?”

“No sir, Sonny boy, we’ve got Kevin Durand at home!”

3

u/bleedingoutlaw28 15d ago

Can't wait for the trailer with the stripped-down piano version of the theme and lots of references to the first films.

6

u/GuinnessSteve 15d ago

Hail, Lord Zipacna.

4

u/running_on_empty 15d ago

This was the only thing I knew this guy from until he played the Blob. He was a very good Goa'uld. Very smarmy and self-important.

1

u/GuinnessSteve 15d ago

He was also in an episode of Dead Like Me. Played a totally unhinged guy.

2

u/running_on_empty 15d ago

Oooh that was another show I enjoyed. Probably watched it back when I was drinking way too much, cus I don't remember details.

2

u/Good_Schedule3744 15d ago

He was the best part of The Strain. Has he done comedy before?

2

u/loverink 15d ago

He’s fantastic in Trial and Error. Short lived show that was so underrated.

1

u/Rosebunse 15d ago

The Strain wasn't comedy? Was I watching it wrong?

7

u/selkiesidhe 15d ago

Love seeing Durand do more work. He's so wonderful--- he always really sells his emotional scenes.

Was just watching Dark Was The Night too

1

u/No-Morning-2543 15d ago

So unnecessary. Jesus Christ. I’ll never understand why they don’t remake something that WASN’T good the first time.

2

u/MrMeeeeSeeeeks 15d ago

So….who’s gonna play OJ’s character? Can we pick a former athlete/ turned actor. Maybe one with a known anger issue.

3

u/Happy-Initiative-838 15d ago

Honestly I’ve liked every name they bring up. I love naked gun. And I’m super worried they will ruin the legacy.

1

u/corellian77 15d ago

“I want to do improvisational comedy… Now.“

2

u/NicCageCompletionist 15d ago

You haven’t seen Kevin Durand until you’ve seen Kevin Durand in checkered pants rapping in French.

6

u/ThePopDaddy 15d ago

Durand is like movie cilantro (or something you like) he's not usually the main part or the featured part, but he adds something good to the movie.

2

u/stevenw84 15d ago

Keamy gonna shoot someone’s daughter.

12

u/Ghost-Writer-320 15d ago

Loved this guy since I first saw the remake of 3:10 to Yuma.

3

2

u/Pandanectar5280 15d ago

Joshua

2

u/SonicStun 15d ago

One of my favorite characters of his!

2

u/Pandanectar5280 15d ago

I am currently re-watching and found out it was him!! So cool, sucha different role than what I'm used to seeing him as.

2

u/jpipersson 15d ago

Who’s going to play OJ?

3

u/MidichlorianAddict 15d ago

Wow looks like he’s having quite the comeback, with this and Planet of the apes

13

u/[deleted] 15d ago

[deleted]

1

u/selkiesidhe 15d ago

Ngl, my husband and I still call him Vasiliy

14

u/Iontknowcuz 15d ago

He could play Elon Musk

2

u/obitonye 15d ago

White Nordberg?

5

u/Rustofcarcosa 15d ago

Awesome big fan

Looks like he's going to be great villain in kingdom of the planet of the apes right next to kubo

u/sexywallposter 15d ago

Fet! Love Fet.

3

u/alphacentaurai 14d ago

We need the book, Fet! We have to find the book!

The Fet/Setrakian double-act carried that entire show!

34

u/Odd-Collection-2575 15d ago

I thought it said Kevin Durant and I instantly became very confused at to what type of product we’d be getting

9

u/EffysBiggestStan 15d ago

Me too and I just assumed he'd be playing the new Detective Nordberg. Oops.

45

u/LordDyran 15d ago

He'll always be Keamy to me.

5

u/Nanosauromo 14d ago

He makes good eggs.

12

u/cwatson214 15d ago

Fuck Keamy.

2

u/davidporges 15d ago

And Carlos on The Butterfly Effect with the plot hole filled jail plot line

7

u/randomsnowflake 15d ago

Steamy Keamy

23

u/richard_glutes 15d ago

This is like when Kareem Abdul Jabbar was in Airplane!

26

u/Sawari5el7ob 15d ago

Naked Gun is one of those trilogies that are, for those of us who grew up with them and in that time, timeless classics.

However, a lot of the humor is rooted firmly in the milieu of late-80s and early-90s culture. Perhaps a remake wouldn't be the worst idea as long as they keep the edgy spirit of the humor alive. Especially the visual gags.

12

u/Deofol7 15d ago

I have a friend that is on the crew for the production. He was very happy to report to us that while he can not break his NDA, the writers absolutely 100% "get it" and he can't wait to see what everyone thinks.

1

u/superkickstart 14d ago

I know sex jokes are part of the movies, but i hope they dial it back a little, closer to the original tv show.

3

u/Darkforces134 14d ago

We need the shoe-shine guy!

1

u/I_had_the_Lasagna 14d ago

The heart surgeon asking Johnny the shoeshine guy about heart surgery is one of the funniest bits in any TV show ever.

5

u/ShibaVagina 15d ago

I met him on a short film, he's super nice. Also a huge fan of trailer park boys. He was quoting Rickyisms. Get 2 birds stones with one joint.

82

u/Major_Wager75 15d ago

Hopefully he can still play for the Olympics this summer

6

u/[deleted] 15d ago

The dude is probably the best Team USA basketball player of all time.

3

u/cowboypsychedelia 15d ago

While I didn’t love Abigail, Durand’s comedic timing was more than fantastic — this movie is shaping up to be super fascinating

2

u/imcrapyall 15d ago

Needs to also be a killer. I hope Ray Lewis is available before the season starts.

9

u/sixtus_clegane119 15d ago

I read the headline as Kevin Durant and thought he was filling the OJ role for a sec

6

u/StudBoi69 15d ago

Travis Kelce has entered the chat

14

u/BoxPsychological7703 15d ago

Preferably one who’s got a good relationship with their spouse

4

u/-Clayburn 15d ago

I bet he's playing Elon Musk.

3

u/Rasselkurt007 15d ago

Now that you mentioned it, he has a kinda similar face.

5

u/-Clayburn 15d ago

3

u/randomsnowflake 15d ago

This makes Elon Musk look like discount Kevin Durand.

4

u/NicCageCompletionist 15d ago

That’s because Kevin Durand is better than Musk in every way.

4

u/Rasselkurt007 15d ago

the similarity is astonishing!

86

u/Yokedmycologist 15d ago

Let’s go KD!

71

u/Thick_Duck 15d ago

I’ve been a fan of this guy specifically since his role in the Walking Tall remake with the rock

“Aye… every team needs a thumper.”

6

u/WornInShoes 14d ago

He will always be Keemi from LOST

8

u/[deleted] 15d ago

He was great with Steph Curry. Not as much with Kyrie or Booker.

8

u/Top_Praline999 15d ago

KD should have been Terry Funk role in the Roadhouse remake. There wasn’t one, but it should have been him.

7

u/[deleted] 15d ago

He also should have stayed in the Bay Area and kept winning chips with Steph.

26

u/Timothee-Chalimothee 15d ago

Back in the days when The Rock was willing to be seen next to someone bigger than him.

3

u/PM_YOUR_CENSORD 15d ago

Is this another made up think in the rocks contracts?

3

u/Timothee-Chalimothee 14d ago

No, just a trend I’ve noticed. Typically the bad guy is no taller than 6’3 and his teammates are no taller than 6’1 (Jumanji, Hobbs and Shaw, Baywatch, Jungle Cruise, Black Adam*, even League of Superpets).

“*” = Pierce Brosnan is over 6’1, but The Rock is not prominently shown in the same frame as him and he’s in his later years, so he wouldn’t really qualify as any kind of physical rival.

Suns get swept and bros already on to the next thing smdh

1

u/CynicalMindTrip 13d ago

You’re the real MVP

1

u/georgieorgyy 14d ago

And in this picture he looks like hes staring into the sun

5

u/ShaunTheBlack 15d ago

Completely unrecognizable in the off-season

4

u/imcrapyall 15d ago

Dude wants to be on a super team somewhere to get that title.

3

u/Madripoorx 15d ago

I was literally just going to post the same thing.

5

u/[deleted] 15d ago

well he was in classic 2012 thriller thunderstruck, so it makes sense he is going back into acting.

8

u/dennythedinosaur 15d ago

I liked him in Fruitvale Station alongside Michael Jordan.

24

u/Punjabiveer30 15d ago

This is what suns front office meant by no team has utilized KD to his best yet

6

u/[deleted] 15d ago

Booker is a great player, but hopefully he isn't in this. Him and Durant don't seem to put forth a winning product together.

46

u/mikeyfreshh 15d ago

My Next Chapter

118

u/ryanm37 15d ago

The hardest road.

58

u/LSF604 15d ago

and the history of sporting legends starring in naked gun movies is pretty grim.

3

u/InsidiousColossus 14d ago

Reggie Jackson almost killed the Queen.

2

u/badadviceforyou244 14d ago

Big Government at it again!

22

u/matlockga 15d ago

I know, Mary Lou Retton. What a terrible person

2

u/stevencastle 15d ago

She was great as Tiny Tim in "Scrooged" though

5

u/LSF604 15d ago

god damn I forgot about her. Maybe the curse is real.

-10

u/McFistPunch 15d ago

Kevin Durant? This is Kevin Durand

-2

u/[deleted] 15d ago

Are you sure? Seems like an odd timing right after the Suns were swept from the playoffs.

18

u/HortonHearsTheWho 15d ago

whoosh

1

u/[deleted] 15d ago

Swoosh

1

u/PlanetLandon 15d ago

Shit, that got me. Good work

-13

u/noturaveragesenpaii 15d ago

Some of us dont watch baseball or sports in general.

15

u/taatchle86 15d ago

Presumably as the villain?

12

u/Rasselkurt007 15d ago

No as Liams Love intresst.

1

u/Bravisimo 14d ago

Shirley you cant be serious.

2

u/imcrapyall 15d ago

I hope they have this as a scene where he's in a wig and Drebbin embraces him from behind and tries talking sexy. Mentions his broad shoulders then kisses but when he pulls away, KD pulls off the wig and pulls a gun on him. Drebbin is shocked and said he should've known because KD kisses better.

1

u/Rasselkurt007 15d ago

Yeah sounds fun.
Maybe KD should wear something like that

Both? Both.

Both is good.

2

6

u/taatchle86 15d ago

… I’ll allow it.

5

u/CluelessSage 15d ago

It says as much in the article…

6

u/VikingSlayer 15d ago

Lol are you assuming people on reddit click the link before commenting?

9

u/mdmnl 15d ago

As much as I love him, that was my response too.

8

u/taatchle86 15d ago

He plays a GREAT villain, so him in a Naked Gun movie hamming it up as a bad guy is right in his wheel house. Like before I knew it was him, he played a Dr. Evil henchman in the second Austin Powers movie. Small role, but still.

129

u/BusinessPurge 15d ago

Loving this Durand renaissance!

1

u/Bravisimo 14d ago

Hes def underrated! Loved him in The Strain

4

u/TalkLikeExplosion 15d ago

I used to run into him in my neighbourhood all the time when he was shooting The Strain in Toronto. Such a genuinely nice dude, really happy for him.

22

u/IceLord86 15d ago

He was great in Abigail. Should work well in Naked Gun.

3

u/[deleted] 15d ago

It will be hard to compete with OJ Simpson in the original trilogy, but he can give it a try. A shame OJ passed so he couldn't reprise his role.

7

u/Rustofcarcosa 15d ago

At least he found the killer

12

u/Mst3Kgf 15d ago

He was hilariously dimwitted in "Abigail", so he should fit right into a "Naked Gun" film.

8

u/Drab_Majesty 15d ago

I remember him in an Austin Powers movie, he will be fine.

15

u/ROBtimusPrime1995 15d ago

Crazy how prolific his career has been before...and then BOOM, 2024 is the year of Durand.

72

u/riegspsych325 r/Movies Veteran 15d ago

he’s honestly a solid and enigmatic character actor. But should the Blood Meridian adaptation get off the ground, he’s my pick to play Judge Holden

8

u/FartForce5 15d ago

Nobody from Thunder Bay is enigmatic.

3

u/VidzxVega 15d ago

I had no idea he was from Thunder Bay...no one is from Thunder Bay. (I have family there)

4

u/FartForce5 15d ago

Same, really tears down the mystique. Like finding out James Cameron is just some furry from Kapuskasing.

0

u/sixtus_clegane119 15d ago

I don’t see him physically as judge holden,

Vincent dorphino or Pruitt Taylor Vince

9

u/Top_Report_4895 15d ago

Vincent dorphino

Do you mean Vincent D'onofrio?

19

u/Tapeworm_III 15d ago

Wow this never even crossed my mind. Good call on Judge.
