JFC I'm so sick of Tom Hanks.
I genuinely loved him in just about everything until they Dwayne Johnsoned him and put him in everything the last few years.

u/AngryTrooper09 Apr 01 '23
I'm not sure what to expect from this movie. Though I've never watched a Wes Anderson movie either
1
u/Salman7236 Apr 01 '23
the contrast is sooo bad

u/seangrey03 Apr 08 '23

u/Salman7236 Apr 14 '23
It's like kinda.. overbright? Even though there's a specific colour pallette with different colors, the picture still looks like it's just one colour pasted over the whole image. Every character just blends in like a chameleon, there's no contrast between the things in the foreground and the background.
2
u/seangrey03 Apr 14 '23
Idk I thought this was just Wes Anderson’s style, looks like a Wes Anderson film to me. But as others described it with each one he gets more “Wes Andersony looking” lol. So it could be that

You know a Wes Anderson movie is a Wes Anderson movie, but you can’t really describe a Wes Anderson movie to someone who has never seen a Wes Anderson movie.
1
u/adbedient Mar 31 '23
I just saw the trailer for this and I'm thinking of going to the theatre for the first time in years to see this.
I have enjoyed all of Wes Andersons films; the story lines are delightfully twisted enough to be absorbing, but my favorite part of Andersons art is the color palates he chooses. I'm colorblind, so most colors, unless vibrant and saturated, are just pretty washed out and the same. So Wes' movies are always like a breath of fresh air, like going outside after being in a dim room all day.
I'm super stoked.

When you thought it cannot get any more Wes Anderson… looking forward to watching this movie in theatres.
1
u/Zercon-Flagpole Mar 30 '23
Anyone else willing to bet this is the last big Bill Murray movie before he finally gets cancelled?

u/JCox1987 Mar 30 '23
I think I spotted Tilda Swinton at around 0:34 on the second from the right. I think she's playing Dr. Hickenlooper

You immediately know it's a Wes Anderson movie by looking at the first frame and its colour palette in the trailer.
1
u/IceFireTerry Mar 30 '23
I misread this as Astro City. And I thought it was going to be about the comic book but this movie looks weird but in the fun way

I don't know why but I expected to feel something by watching this trailer whether it's interest, confusion, bewilderment, anything...and I didn't.
I just don't feel anything about this movie
1
u/DaRealClinical Mar 30 '23
Halfway through the trailer and I still don't understand what it's about.

I love Wes Anderson and he has played w/ stop motion and stuff but I kinda wish he’d push outside of his comfort zone and try something different. I love his style, art, cinematography. . You know instantly it’s an WA film 3 seconds into a trailer. I just think w/ his creativity he could branch out some.
3
u/UncleJulz Mar 30 '23
Unpopular opinion here but I think I’m done with Mr Anderson’s movies. You guys enjoy it. I couldn’t even finish the trailer it was so cringe. Here come the downvotes…

u/Taurius Mar 30 '23
Wes Anderson calling every celeb friend: "Hey, I'm making..."
Celeb: "I'm in!!!!"

2
u/Skeeders Mar 30 '23
I am loving the aesthetic of the movie. Paired with my relatively recent stint of living in the middle of a desert, I am excited for this film.
2
u/X-Bones_21 Mar 30 '23
I saw the beginning and thought “What STYLE is this?” then I saw Wes Anderson and I said “Yeah.”

3
2
u/StolenCamaro Mar 30 '23
I don’t know what I was expecting, but Wes Anderson may have out-Wes Anderson’d himself.
3
u/Sugreev2001 Mar 30 '23
I’m so bored of Wes Anderson, man. I’ve loved his movies since Rushmore and he hit his high point with Grand Budapest Hotel. French Dispatch was too much. Now every movie of his seems the same, certainly feel the same. Must every fucking movie look like a freaking kitsch diorama? And must every dialogue in his movies have the same whimsical manner??
People keep saying that every director has their signature style, which I totally agree with, but I think Wes is the only one, aside from Terrence Mallick, where their signature style is force fed to you in every frame of their movies.

u/ArtisticTomatillo106 Mar 30 '23
It looks like you just don't like Wes Anderson films. I don't like explosions gunfights but why do I keep watching Michael Bay films...
If you don't like it go watch something else

No that was an example...
But I guess make an assumption. Also reading comprehension is a thing. I never once said that you like Michael Bay movies I just made an example of if you like movies with explosions watch a Michael Bay movie. If you like movies with some crazy s*** happening in the background watching a Wes Anderson film

good thing they put A FILM BY WES ANDERSON in there or I would never have guessed

u/pinguaina Mar 30 '23
A boring vanity project by an overrated one trick pony director. I cringed watching the trailer. Also it is giving me sexist vibes.
0
u/jamesneysmith Mar 30 '23
How on earth can you call this movie a vanity project. Every one of his movies has had the same style. Theyre all unique stores and have nothing to do with him other than his name appearing in the credits. By this definition every director that had established a visual language only makes vanity projects. Which is a shit load of directors. And also an asinine thought.
1
u/FrozenChaii Mar 30 '23
I keep seeing people mention Wes Andersons style, what’s it like, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of his movies
2
u/LondonDavis1 Mar 30 '23 edited Mar 31 '23
This trailer was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. I had to tap out half way in because they were basically giving us the whole film. Love Wes Anderson but these long ass trailers nowadays are killing me.

This looks awful if the cast were completely new actors and didn’t have the hype of who is actually casted then this would flop so hard

u/tmihai20 Mar 30 '23
The instant I pressed play I was saying to myself "This has to be Wes Anderson's movie". It has the colors and the tempo the director is doing. I love it and I will watch it in a theater.
2
u/strahag Mar 30 '23
“All of his movies look/feel the same”
Grand Budapest hotel, isle of dogs, fantastic mr fox, the life aquatic, moonrise kingdom all have his flavor, but you’re kidding yourself if you can’t see how incredibly diverse his portfolio is.

This is how Wes Anderson gives his actors direction:
"Just pretend you have no arm muscles. Like your arms are just banana peels. Now try not to move your facial muscles when you speak. That's it, omg yeah, and now look off into the distance as ironically as possible. Holy huckleberry, I'm a genius!"
2
3
u/ianjcm55 Mar 30 '23
I’ve seen it. And coming from someone who hasn’t really liked any Wes Anderson movies since Rushmore and the Royal Tennenbaums, this is his best movie in a loooooong time. The trailer only scratches the surface of what this movie is about.
2
u/messengers1 Mar 30 '23
Are they in the simulation? The whole setting is like in the futuristic compound for the experiment.
1
u/bollocker9000 Mar 30 '23
Every Wes Anderson film has everyone playing Wes Anderson. Seriously, they all play exactly the same person
3
u/poopoobuttholes Mar 30 '23
I fucking love this trailer's aesthetic and color design. Gives me The Grand Budapest Hotel vibes too. Can anyone recommend more movies like these if there are any?

u/FullMaxPowerStirner Mar 30 '23 edited Mar 30 '23
Is this starring Beyoncé?
Oh, speaking of which... I didn't notice Wes has a long record of not casting many Black people or other people from ethnic minorities. Interesting!

I didn’t predict the specifics about this movie but if you had handed me a vague plot synopsis and told me it was a Wes Anderson film this is the trailer that I’d dream up

Every movie stars’ agent: <answers the phone> it’s wes anders…
Movie star: <interrupts> yes
Agent: He hasn’t said what the move is about or what…
Star: <interrupts again> TELL. HIM. I’LL. TAKE. THE. PART.

I’m a Wes Anderson fan. The Life Aquatic is my fav movie. I was very disappointed by The French Dispatch though. This looks much better.

Was it just me or was that trailer awful. Didn’t have any of the emotional punch his trailers usually have. Idk I’m usually a huge WA fan but this one just doesn’t grab me

u/TareXmd Mar 30 '23
This is the best movie trailer I'll see this year, including Nolan's yet to be released trailer. There I said it. Can't wait to see this.

Has Wes Anderson made a bad movie? Sure, some aren't as good as others, but I can't think of one that didn't deliver something worthwhile.

u/Lasiocarpa83 Mar 30 '23
Does Wes actually cast for the part? Rushmore was so perfectly cast, but ever since I feel like I watch his movies thinking "oh there is some other famous person...and another, and another". Kind of distracts me from the incredible visuals.

This is going to get a lot of hate, but Wes Anderson films are great to look at and the visuals tickle the mind, but there's just no substance.
Like I can remember scenes and how it looks but I can't remember what the damn movie was about.
1
u/jamesneysmith Mar 30 '23
The ironic thing is there usually is substance but its buried under all the aesthetic and the deadpan actng so its hard to connect with it. Most of his movies have some sort of touching story at the core of it though. He just presents the stories with all of the subdued wasp-y emotions

I haven't really liked Maya Hawke in anything she's done so far but she always seemed like the perfect cast member for a Wes Anderson film.

I'm certain that Wes Anderson's next movie, the cinematography will be so washed out that he can pretty much say whatever names of actors are in it because no one will be able to tell.

Wes Anderson is like a super beautiful, organized, clean, pleasing human being who also makes me nervous because I can’t sense their inner chaos or humanity. Strangely he makes stories about humanity, but visually it feels devoid of humanity. Which feels…visually pleasing and extremely odd.
I also for some reason have such an issue with the characters in his movies which are the preteen, highly intellectual, emotionally mature, wise, poignant, expressive yet “weird” kids. Eekk scary.

u/KennethPowersIII Mar 30 '23
It took exactly one thumbnail for me to realize this is a Wes Anderson movie.

u/adamthehousecat Mar 30 '23
I’ll be honest I liked him much more when he was doing oddball characters grounded in reality. It seems the aesthetic has taken over and the edge and wittiness has taken a backseat. Just my opinion. Feel free to downvote.
3
u/-Vagabond Mar 30 '23
I think a lot of people agree. There's a lack of relatability when it's this extra. I think Life Aquatic hit the perfect balance of highly aesthetic while still largely grounded in reality. His most recent films go a bit too hard in the paint. They're still great, but it would be nice for him to bring it back a bit for a future project.
1
2
u/blh75 Mar 30 '23
I'm going to watch it like I do every Wes Anderson movie. But at this point he really doesn't even need to put by Wes Anderson on any of his trailers. I think it's always pretty obvious.
1
u/cescquintero Mar 30 '23
Lmao this feels like Moonlight Kingdom + Grand Hotel Budapest. I'm in.
Ps: Is this Wes Anderson style? I guess haven't watched many of his movies

I wonder if there will be stop motion and cartoon scenes or if he's going back to the basics with this.
Definitely looks like they rented a parking lot, dumped a lot of sand on it and hung nice backdrops all around.
Meanwhile the train scenes are definitely miniature but not stop motion.

Jason Schwartzman reminds me a lot of Stanley Kubrick in this trailer.
I just went through the whole thing shot-by-shot, there's so much here. I hope this becomes the highest-grossing film of all time and they build a massive domed theme park where they recreate every object down to the tiniest detail then I can pay admission to run around in it.
