Is this a comedy?

1

u/Pietkroon May 24 '23

why do tom have a gun he aint no actionman

1

u/mrsirsouth Apr 29 '23

JFC I'm so sick of Tom Hanks.

I genuinely loved him in just about everything until they Dwayne Johnsoned him and put him in everything the last few years.

1

u/AngryTrooper09 Apr 01 '23

I'm not sure what to expect from this movie. Though I've never watched a Wes Anderson movie either

1

u/Salman7236 Apr 01 '23

the contrast is sooo bad

1

u/seangrey03 Apr 08 '23

Wdym

1

u/Salman7236 Apr 14 '23

It's like kinda.. overbright? Even though there's a specific colour pallette with different colors, the picture still looks like it's just one colour pasted over the whole image. Every character just blends in like a chameleon, there's no contrast between the things in the foreground and the background.

2

u/seangrey03 Apr 14 '23

Idk I thought this was just Wes Anderson’s style, looks like a Wes Anderson film to me. But as others described it with each one he gets more “Wes Andersony looking” lol. So it could be that

1

u/Salman7236 Apr 14 '23

Someone mentioned it's "overexposed" and that's the word I was looking for.

1

u/ReggieLeBeau Apr 01 '23

Jason Schwartzman as Charlie Day

1

u/vipassana-newbie Mar 31 '23

This is the most Wes Anderson movie that we’d Anderson aha done.

1

u/Yummie23 Mar 31 '23

You know a Wes Anderson movie is a Wes Anderson movie, but you can’t really describe a Wes Anderson movie to someone who has never seen a Wes Anderson movie.

1

u/adbedient Mar 31 '23

I just saw the trailer for this and I'm thinking of going to the theatre for the first time in years to see this.

I have enjoyed all of Wes Andersons films; the story lines are delightfully twisted enough to be absorbing, but my favorite part of Andersons art is the color palates he chooses. I'm colorblind, so most colors, unless vibrant and saturated, are just pretty washed out and the same. So Wes' movies are always like a breath of fresh air, like going outside after being in a dim room all day.

I'm super stoked.

1

u/eddiedingle129 Mar 31 '23

Le quirky bullshit man. Same thing over and over. Its boring

1

u/Pietkroon May 24 '23

And yet reddit is CUMMING

1

u/signfrommars Mar 30 '23

When you thought it cannot get any more Wes Anderson… looking forward to watching this movie in theatres.

1

u/Zercon-Flagpole Mar 30 '23

Anyone else willing to bet this is the last big Bill Murray movie before he finally gets cancelled?

1

u/JCox1987 Mar 30 '23

I think I spotted Tilda Swinton at around 0:34 on the second from the right. I think she's playing Dr. Hickenlooper

1

u/JDAL1987 Mar 30 '23

Thought the film was called A steroid city.... 😂😂

-1

u/iCashMon3y Mar 30 '23

Wes Anderson stinks.

1

u/CaptainT33mo1337 Mar 30 '23

You immediately know it's a Wes Anderson movie by looking at the first frame and its colour palette in the trailer.

1

u/IceFireTerry Mar 30 '23

I misread this as Astro City. And I thought it was going to be about the comic book but this movie looks weird but in the fun way

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

That is the very definition of Wes Anderson

1

u/Plenty-Ad-1502 Mar 30 '23

sounds nice...

1

u/VeniceRapture Mar 30 '23

I don't know why but I expected to feel something by watching this trailer whether it's interest, confusion, bewilderment, anything...and I didn't.

I just don't feel anything about this movie

1

u/DaRealClinical Mar 30 '23

Halfway through the trailer and I still don't understand what it's about.

1

u/stracki Mar 30 '23

Is that Sophia Lillis at 1:22?

1

u/panamaniacs2011 Mar 30 '23

it looks like grand budapest hotel

1

u/Fosterpig Mar 30 '23

I love Wes Anderson and he has played w/ stop motion and stuff but I kinda wish he’d push outside of his comfort zone and try something different. I love his style, art, cinematography. . You know instantly it’s an WA film 3 seconds into a trailer. I just think w/ his creativity he could branch out some.

3

u/UncleJulz Mar 30 '23

Unpopular opinion here but I think I’m done with Mr Anderson’s movies. You guys enjoy it. I couldn’t even finish the trailer it was so cringe. Here come the downvotes…

1

u/Manchetta Mar 30 '23

Holy Teal and Orange LUTness Batman!

2

u/Taurius Mar 30 '23

Wes Anderson calling every celeb friend: "Hey, I'm making..."

Celeb: "I'm in!!!!"

1

u/Keule55 Mar 30 '23

Why is Producer Guy calling Tom Hanks?

2

u/Skeeders Mar 30 '23

I am loving the aesthetic of the movie. Paired with my relatively recent stint of living in the middle of a desert, I am excited for this film.

2

u/X-Bones_21 Mar 30 '23

I saw the beginning and thought “What STYLE is this?” then I saw Wes Anderson and I said “Yeah.”

1

u/__SuperSam__ Mar 30 '23

I just don’t get Wes Anderson movies. He doesn’t do it for me.

3

u/Outlander_ Mar 30 '23

I love the cinematography on this. It looks like a living travel poster

2

u/StolenCamaro Mar 30 '23

I don’t know what I was expecting, but Wes Anderson may have out-Wes Anderson’d himself.

3

u/Sugreev2001 Mar 30 '23

I’m so bored of Wes Anderson, man. I’ve loved his movies since Rushmore and he hit his high point with Grand Budapest Hotel. French Dispatch was too much. Now every movie of his seems the same, certainly feel the same. Must every fucking movie look like a freaking kitsch diorama? And must every dialogue in his movies have the same whimsical manner??

People keep saying that every director has their signature style, which I totally agree with, but I think Wes is the only one, aside from Terrence Mallick, where their signature style is force fed to you in every frame of their movies.

0

u/ArtisticTomatillo106 Mar 30 '23

It looks like you just don't like Wes Anderson films. I don't like explosions gunfights but why do I keep watching Michael Bay films...

If you don't like it go watch something else

-2

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

1

u/ArtisticTomatillo106 Mar 30 '23

No that was an example...

But I guess make an assumption. Also reading comprehension is a thing. I never once said that you like Michael Bay movies I just made an example of if you like movies with explosions watch a Michael Bay movie. If you like movies with some crazy s*** happening in the background watching a Wes Anderson film

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

1

u/ArtisticTomatillo106 Mar 30 '23

Again attacking me not my argument.... Dude just go watch what you like and stop complaining about the progression somebody else's style

4

u/DowntownRefugee Mar 30 '23

good thing they put A FILM BY WES ANDERSON in there or I would never have guessed

2

u/FamousLoser Mar 30 '23

Looks fantastic!

3

u/pinguaina Mar 30 '23

A boring vanity project by an overrated one trick pony director. I cringed watching the trailer. Also it is giving me sexist vibes.

0

u/jamesneysmith Mar 30 '23

How on earth can you call this movie a vanity project. Every one of his movies has had the same style. Theyre all unique stores and have nothing to do with him other than his name appearing in the credits. By this definition every director that had established a visual language only makes vanity projects. Which is a shit load of directors. And also an asinine thought.

1

u/FrozenChaii Mar 30 '23

I keep seeing people mention Wes Andersons style, what’s it like, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of his movies

2

u/LondonDavis1 Mar 30 '23 edited Mar 31 '23

This trailer was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. I had to tap out half way in because they were basically giving us the whole film. Love Wes Anderson but these long ass trailers nowadays are killing me.

1

u/HEHEHO2022 Jun 21 '23

haha not in the slightest

1

u/taimoor2 Mar 30 '23

I knew its a Wes Anderson from the still...Dude's movies are so recognizable.

1

u/michael-jackson1894 Mar 30 '23

This looks awful if the cast were completely new actors and didn’t have the hype of who is actually casted then this would flop so hard

-4

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

Check my profile out to find the link 😏

1

u/tmihai20 Mar 30 '23

The instant I pressed play I was saying to myself "This has to be Wes Anderson's movie". It has the colors and the tempo the director is doing. I love it and I will watch it in a theater.

2

u/strahag Mar 30 '23

“All of his movies look/feel the same”

Grand Budapest hotel, isle of dogs, fantastic mr fox, the life aquatic, moonrise kingdom all have his flavor, but you’re kidding yourself if you can’t see how incredibly diverse his portfolio is.

1

u/vlexz Mar 30 '23

Jason Schwartzman must be Wes Anderson‘s baby lol.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

[deleted]

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

Road Runner vibes.

1

u/April_Fabb Mar 30 '23

This could almost be a theatre play with all the reduction going on.

2

u/NurplePain Mar 30 '23

Wes is low key one of the best directors of all time, from a technical standpoint.

0

u/ZealousidealLettuce6 Mar 30 '23

Oh boy looks awful

1

u/TeTapuMaataurana Mar 30 '23

The colour grade is crazy

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

1

u/Wide_Okra_7028 Mar 30 '23

* getting excited for three hour brooding snore fest in muted colors and Hans Zimmer noise, number 506 instead.

2

u/readball Mar 30 '23

Does anyone else feel like "I think I will not like this movie" ?

1

u/majorgame1 Mar 30 '23

Freight Train Elizabeth Cotton

1

u/J_Mal Mar 30 '23

I think I’m alone on this, but the trailer reminded me of one of those ai generated images where you can’t identify a single object. For some reason I’m just really confused

5

u/IcyClearly Mar 30 '23

Wes Anderson movies kind of suck if Owen Wilson isn't in on the writing.

3

u/heytherefwend Mar 30 '23

Jesus, Wes might be “Andersoning” himself out on this one..

2

u/ToddTen Mar 30 '23

Can Wes Anderson get TOO Wes Andersony? 🤔

10

u/supperfield Mar 30 '23

This is how Wes Anderson gives his actors direction:

"Just pretend you have no arm muscles. Like your arms are just banana peels. Now try not to move your facial muscles when you speak. That's it, omg yeah, and now look off into the distance as ironically as possible. Holy huckleberry, I'm a genius!"

2

u/supperfield Mar 30 '23

A masterclass in how not to evolve as a director

3

u/ianjcm55 Mar 30 '23

I’ve seen it. And coming from someone who hasn’t really liked any Wes Anderson movies since Rushmore and the Royal Tennenbaums, this is his best movie in a loooooong time. The trailer only scratches the surface of what this movie is about.

2

u/messengers1 Mar 30 '23

Are they in the simulation? The whole setting is like in the futuristic compound for the experiment.

1

u/bollocker9000 Mar 30 '23

Every Wes Anderson film has everyone playing Wes Anderson. Seriously, they all play exactly the same person

3

u/poopoobuttholes Mar 30 '23

I fucking love this trailer's aesthetic and color design. Gives me The Grand Budapest Hotel vibes too. Can anyone recommend more movies like these if there are any?

2

u/fungchangwang Mar 30 '23

right away knew this was a wes anderson film

1

u/FullMaxPowerStirner Mar 30 '23 edited Mar 30 '23

Is this starring Beyoncé?

Oh, speaking of which... I didn't notice Wes has a long record of not casting many Black people or other people from ethnic minorities. Interesting!

1

u/lonelygagger Mar 30 '23

I only had to look at the thumbnail to know this was Wes Anderson.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

I'll watch this.

-2

u/Leading-Suspect Mar 30 '23

Man that looks awful

2

u/agentsmithbobby Mar 30 '23

Jason Schwartzman looking damn good with that short hair and beard!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

what even is this color palette. Its like if someone overdosed candy on threw up on everything.

2

u/Fogmoose Mar 30 '23

I meant yes but my mouth didn't speak. LOL

1

u/moon_safari_ Mar 30 '23

this looks so good

1

u/fragrantgarbage Mar 30 '23

Nobody else can do Wes like Anderson

1

u/istapledmytongue Mar 30 '23

Now just waiting for someone to post this to r/AccidentalWesAnderson

1

u/BecauseScience Mar 30 '23

I didn't know this was Wes Anderson until the characters started talking.

1

u/44035 Mar 30 '23

This is the most Wes Anderson thing that ever Wes Andersoned.

2

u/zillskillnillfrill Mar 30 '23

Here I was thinking the French dispatch was his last film. Seems like he's back on a roll

2

u/54321Blast0ff Mar 30 '23

I didn’t predict the specifics about this movie but if you had handed me a vague plot synopsis and told me it was a Wes Anderson film this is the trailer that I’d dream up

1

u/j592dk_91_c3w-h_d_r Mar 30 '23

Sounds like the plot of Wet Hot American Summer

1

u/exgiexpcv Mar 30 '23

So much TALENT!!!

1

u/Frosty-Gas855 Mar 30 '23

Very reminiscent of Life Aquatic. Love it!

4

u/Rubaiyat39 Mar 30 '23

Every movie stars’ agent: <answers the phone> it’s wes anders…

Movie star: <interrupts> yes

Agent: He hasn’t said what the move is about or what…

Star: <interrupts again> TELL. HIM. I’LL. TAKE. THE. PART.

1

u/Eric-Fartmann Mar 30 '23

I’m a Wes Anderson fan. The Life Aquatic is my fav movie. I was very disappointed by The French Dispatch though. This looks much better.

1

u/finalmattasy Mar 30 '23

The first minute looks good and then it's shit.

2

u/darkdude103 Mar 30 '23

Getting lots of fallout vibes

3

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

I swear Tom Hanks is in literally every movie these days

2

u/jackydubs31 Mar 30 '23

Was it just me or was that trailer awful. Didn’t have any of the emotional punch his trailers usually have. Idk I’m usually a huge WA fan but this one just doesn’t grab me

4

u/TareXmd Mar 30 '23

This is the best movie trailer I'll see this year, including Nolan's yet to be released trailer. There I said it. Can't wait to see this.

1

u/Mormex Mar 30 '23

It’s one of the miss movie types I will never watch

1

u/BloominOnion52 Mar 30 '23

A redemption for the The French Dispatch?

1

u/ElectrickMayhem Mar 30 '23

you had me at Wes Anderson

3

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

If Tilda’s not an alien I’ll eat my left boot

2

u/ahesson472 Mar 30 '23

It's giving me pre-war Fallout.

1

u/strokekaraoke Mar 30 '23

Who’s the blonde actress? She’s already my favorite character.

1

u/sourcandy333 Mar 30 '23

Love me some wes Anderson

1

u/TheRegular-Throwaway Mar 30 '23

I knew it was Wes Anderson like 3 seconds in lol.

0

u/Pixar_ Mar 30 '23

The saturation in this film is too damn high!

1

u/Echo_Romeo571 Mar 30 '23

Wes Anderson seems to out-Wes Anderson himself with each new movie.

3

u/Bradyac Mar 30 '23

This movie will be the best macaron I ever consumed

1

u/Staudly Mar 30 '23

Has Wes Anderson made a bad movie? Sure, some aren't as good as others, but I can't think of one that didn't deliver something worthwhile.

2

u/KingOfKorners Mar 30 '23

I tried years and years ago...just can't get into his quirky movies at all.

2

u/Rockit2uranus Mar 30 '23

This is the most Wes Anderson looking Wes Anderson trailer ever.

3

u/analogIT Mar 30 '23

I know what instagram filter is going to be popular this summer.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

If only number of ppl clicking the LIKE button for the trailer would actually goto the theatre to see the movie.. :)

2

u/Lasiocarpa83 Mar 30 '23

Does Wes actually cast for the part? Rushmore was so perfectly cast, but ever since I feel like I watch his movies thinking "oh there is some other famous person...and another, and another". Kind of distracts me from the incredible visuals.

1

u/c_vanbc Mar 30 '23

Can’t wait!

1

u/janniefan Mar 30 '23

pog pog pog pog

2

u/cloudinspector1 Mar 30 '23

I really love that Tom Hanks has kept working.

3

u/hemannjo Mar 30 '23

Il getting tired of that wry nonchalance of WA’s characters.

1

u/JohnnyQuestions36 Mar 30 '23

Wow, color me stoked

4

u/devidual Mar 30 '23

This is going to get a lot of hate, but Wes Anderson films are great to look at and the visuals tickle the mind, but there's just no substance.

Like I can remember scenes and how it looks but I can't remember what the damn movie was about.

1

u/jamesneysmith Mar 30 '23

The ironic thing is there usually is substance but its buried under all the aesthetic and the deadpan actng so its hard to connect with it. Most of his movies have some sort of touching story at the core of it though. He just presents the stories with all of the subdued wasp-y emotions

2

u/Ninety8Balloons Mar 30 '23

Yup, that's a Wes Anderson movie alright

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

I haven't really liked Maya Hawke in anything she's done so far but she always seemed like the perfect cast member for a Wes Anderson film.

1

u/LBichon Mar 30 '23

Wes Anderson has a style.

1

u/theHoustonian Mar 30 '23

Looks amazing

1

u/wordfiend99 Mar 30 '23

jeff goldblum will play the alien bet on it

1

u/themedicduck Mar 30 '23

It's like fantastic mr.fox but .....just the actors and setting is different

1

u/robber80 Mar 30 '23

They also spell and pronounce the titles differently.

0

u/themedicduck Mar 30 '23

Ok internet karen

2

u/Democrats-Are-Idiots Mar 30 '23

This looks absolutely stupid and my interest went down with the asteroid

1

u/rare_pig Mar 30 '23

Nah Tom Hanks is on the list.

2

u/gargolito Mar 30 '23

I'm certain that Wes Anderson's next movie, the cinematography will be so washed out that he can pretty much say whatever names of actors are in it because no one will be able to tell.

1

u/mintgreencoffeecup Mar 30 '23

I haven’t been this excited for a movie in a long time

1

u/TheDevilsAdvokaat Mar 30 '23

This looks interesting. Love what they did with colour too.

1

u/HydroFrog64_2nd Mar 30 '23

like 5 frames in and I already knew it was gonna be a wes anderson film

2

u/teh_hasay Mar 30 '23

Starring Tom Hanks as Bill Murray

1

u/jbird406 Mar 30 '23

Where the fuck is Bill Murray?!?

1

u/robber80 Mar 30 '23

His answering machine ran out of tape so Wes couldn't get ahold of him.

1

u/hypercamlive Mar 30 '23

Just got privated.

1

u/Diolives Mar 30 '23

Wes Anderson is like a super beautiful, organized, clean, pleasing human being who also makes me nervous because I can’t sense their inner chaos or humanity. Strangely he makes stories about humanity, but visually it feels devoid of humanity. Which feels…visually pleasing and extremely odd.

I also for some reason have such an issue with the characters in his movies which are the preteen, highly intellectual, emotionally mature, wise, poignant, expressive yet “weird” kids. Eekk scary.

1

u/wozzy93 Mar 30 '23

Already a masterpiece.

1

u/KennethPowersIII Mar 30 '23

It took exactly one thumbnail for me to realize this is a Wes Anderson movie.

1

u/StrongYak9417 Mar 30 '23

Who thought that it said A Steroid city?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

I already knew the title but it looked like it said A Steroid City to me for a sec lol

10

u/adamthehousecat Mar 30 '23

I’ll be honest I liked him much more when he was doing oddball characters grounded in reality. It seems the aesthetic has taken over and the edge and wittiness has taken a backseat. Just my opinion. Feel free to downvote.

3

u/-Vagabond Mar 30 '23

I think a lot of people agree. There's a lack of relatability when it's this extra. I think Life Aquatic hit the perfect balance of highly aesthetic while still largely grounded in reality. His most recent films go a bit too hard in the paint. They're still great, but it would be nice for him to bring it back a bit for a future project.

1

u/nongo Mar 30 '23

Anyone know the font in this video?

2

u/blh75 Mar 30 '23

I'm going to watch it like I do every Wes Anderson movie. But at this point he really doesn't even need to put by Wes Anderson on any of his trailers. I think it's always pretty obvious.

1

u/cescquintero Mar 30 '23

Lmao this feels like Moonlight Kingdom + Grand Hotel Budapest. I'm in.

Ps: Is this Wes Anderson style? I guess haven't watched many of his movies

1

u/jamesneysmith Mar 30 '23

Yes all his movies have this style apart from his first one

1

u/bad_retired_fairy Mar 30 '23

I’m sure this is the only time I’ll ever see this trailer. 😂

1

u/g0gues Mar 30 '23

This looks like a postcard in movie form. Can’t wait!

1

u/IngeniousDummy Mar 30 '23

This Wes Anderson movie is the most Wes Anderson movie Wes Anderson has ever created for his Wes Anderson film collection.

1

u/Exact-Dig-7026 Mar 30 '23

I want this movie RIGHT NOW

1

u/SMB73 Mar 30 '23

Is it still a Wes Anderson film of there's no Bill Murray?

4

u/tomandshell Mar 30 '23

In tonight’s performance, the part of Bill Murray will be played by Tom Hanks.

2

u/MissJenniferEliz Mar 30 '23

Tom Hanks = Bill Murray

2

u/Cadbury_fish_egg Mar 30 '23

It seems like a parody

1

u/floppybunny26 Mar 30 '23

This looks fun as heck!

1

u/ChicoCorrales Mar 30 '23

Arsty fartsy.

2

u/usrname_REDACTED Mar 30 '23

Is Ton Hanks the new Bill Murray in the Wes Anderson universe?

1

u/whofusesthemusic Mar 30 '23

5 seconds in and while I have never heard of it its clearly a wes Anderson film..... the dialog is so obvious.

2

u/FunnyLife4488 Mar 30 '23

this looks so good id love to live there

2

u/papadondon Mar 30 '23

hong chau is killing it lately

1

u/writetobear Mar 30 '23

This feels inspired by the western town in Nope

2

u/JusSayinYo Mar 29 '23

Every frame a postcard . . .

1

u/ForeverObama Mar 29 '23

Can’t wait!

0

u/walrus926 Mar 29 '23

Gotta love the colored actors.

2

u/immunogoblin1 Mar 29 '23

Recognized the director from the first shot.

2

u/bob_in_the_west Mar 29 '23

I wonder if there will be stop motion and cartoon scenes or if he's going back to the basics with this.

Definitely looks like they rented a parking lot, dumped a lot of sand on it and hung nice backdrops all around.

Meanwhile the train scenes are definitely miniature but not stop motion.

1

I was entertained by this trailer more than some entire films.

2

u/new_wellness_center Mar 29 '23

Jason Schwartzman reminds me a lot of Stanley Kubrick in this trailer.

I just went through the whole thing shot-by-shot, there's so much here. I hope this becomes the highest-grossing film of all time and they build a massive domed theme park where they recreate every object down to the tiniest detail then I can pay admission to run around in it.
