Which game had you like this after finishing it? Discussion
That feeling of emptiness and contemplation when you reach the end of a beautiful experience, when you realise you’ll never get to feel the same even if you were to re-play the game. For me it’s Outer Wilds

When first beat Xenoblade 3 in 2023. The story and themes changed my outlook on life in the best possible ways. One of the best executed themes I've ever experienced in ANY media period, it made me feel so much, more than I knew I could. I now cope by watching let's-plays to feel fiction of how I back then :,)

Halo 3/Reach, because I know after them comes the 343 era of games that fundamentally killed Halo.

Star WARS Jedi Survivor. The ending wasn't what I was expecting given how the first game ended you know?

u/Civil-Addendum4071 7d ago
Fallout: New Vegas. Fallout 3 didn't quite "hit" the same way, what with Broken Steel revivifying you for the sake of plot.
But after the Dam.. that's it. You see the totality of all your actions, in the form of a slideshow overviewing everyone and every faction you interacted with. One each for the DLC's as well. The first time through, I had to stop after playing Dead Money because I had things of my own I was trying to hold onto. But sometimes, it's about letting go.

Not the end of the game, but the end of that Airport level in COD Modern Warfare 2.

Titanfall 2, Subnautica, a bunch of DS Pokemon games (man I miss the DS and DSI), Wind Waker (I played the Wii U Remake), BOTW and TOTK, I even remember there was this Transformers game on my old DS that I absolutely loved and felt so sad when it was done. Honestly really any game I actually manage to finish gave me that feeling for a good while. I have a big problem of playing most of the way through a game but never ending it, so when I do end up finishing one it's because I loved it so much. Then I just get a horrible pit at the end and have to move on. There are so many more, but I just can't think of them.
Edit: I forgot about Undertale, but I never played that one myself so I don't know if it counts. Even just watching someone else play it on YouTube was just... some of these game devs just really know how to pull at my heartstrings man, games have been a huge part of my life since I can remember.

Dante’s inferno cut scenes were just beautiful imo and left me thinking about forgiveness and the lengths we’d go to to get it. And what my “sins” would look like if I took Dante’s journey myself. Mind you I was like 13 lol

I cannot remember, I’ve been basically just watching stuff recently. I was mega depressed after Edgerunnders when it came out, but I doubt that counts.

Outer Wilds definitely. Leaves you feeling happy but still kinda melancholy at the same time.

Gunbrella, took only 8 hours to finish the game, I definitely enjoyed it but like the entire time I played it I constantly felt like something was missing, I don't know how else to phrase it but just felt like another layer of the game just missing for some reason

Tales of Symphonia! Its an absolutely amazingly game! I love love LOVE the gamecube! A friend of mine introduced me to TOS back when we were kids and begged for it and the gamecube for Christmas from santa! I had my fiancé play it and he became obsessed with it immediately. I’m so glad I got to play it and enjoy it when I was young, when I play games now I really struggle with enjoying them and keeping my focus. I used to have a stick stack of papers that was my walkthrough for whenever I needed help with it.

Finishing tlou 2 was depressing. Finishing both of the newer God of War’s had me excited for the next. I just love those games. Another one is when I finished Ghost of Tsushima (SPOILERS) I ended up choosing kill and omg when she started singing I almost cried. I feel like it fitted more. Also I never finished rdr2 but the ending I cried a lot.

Red Dead Redemption 2. Its easily one of the best games period. There is so many different ways to play the game and so many different side quests with unique choices. The fact it came out almost 6 years ago to is crazy to me. Rockstar out did themselves then out did themselves again.

Soma is literally this. Too bad I got it spoiled so I didn’t get this moment. But otherwise, I didn’t lay there sad. But Alan wake 2 had me staring at the credits. Pls don’t spoil the ng+ btw. I haven’t played it yet.

I think Hellblade. Bioshock. Evil Within. I’m trying to think of some older games but it’s hard off the top of my head. Mafia is one I’m reminded of though.

Farcry 5 had me like this because I was sad there was not much left to do but hyped for the next game cause it was ended on a cliffhanger. Then we got New dawn which was… alright.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent. A bit dated at this point, but a masterpiece nonetheless.
I loved the ambience, music, characters, and story. I wouldn't mind a remake. The second game was interesting.
The third game was awful. The newest game is okay. So, the first is still my favorite out of the series of four.
