Omori, reviews were great, but i wrote it off as a pretentious "sad" game. Now it's my fav game and i have yet to find a game that tops it.

The person who introduced me to it later went on to become my best friend btw

Lego Fortnite

u/IshyTheLegit Mar 28 '24

Tekken 7. Didn't care for fighting games before. Then I felt a rush I never felt before while gaming.

1

u/DocWiggleGiggle Mar 26 '24

Project Zomboid. Thanks u/sneakychopsticks

2

u/Hazee302 Mar 26 '24

Path of Exile.

My buddies convinced me like 4 separate times to play and I always quit before the end of the campaign. They finally got me to join during league start and we cruised through the campaign and into maps that night. I’ve been playing every league since.

2

u/TheInkDemon414 Mar 25 '24

Fortnite. I still remember my first time playing it all the way back in 2018.

2

u/VIPENTHOUSE Mar 25 '24

Stardew Valley

Genshin Impact. I saw all the ads constantly, and didn’t want to play just off of stubbornness from ad irritation, every YouTuber, and ad in between was sponsored by Genshin. One time I saw an ad that wasn’t like the rest and saw that they had gliders, which I haven’t seen another game allow you to fly like that. And the one Oni character Itto looked cool, so I finally decided to try it.

Once I got into it, I see combat that I’ve never seen before. Like elemental reactions that happen on enemies not just in the environment and area around. The story is a lot more detailed and exciting than I expected and now I’m addicted. I play it at least once a day to get my dailies done. Oh I can’t forget the new sexy characters they add. Almost every character has a optional story request to accompany them for your main character to learn more and hangout with characters you like. Plus endings give you rewards.

I like playing with a controller (but difficult to keep phone upright while holding controller) so I didn’t play much right away but after a year away coming back to play and then getting a PS5, I played it a lot more. The game isn’t available on Xbox, but using the xbox controller with the phone just didn’t feel right doesn’t fit as well with the phone controls. Don’t knock it till you try it. It really picks up the farther you go and some really emotional scenes in the most recent update.

Sry for word wall

Fromsoftware games. I eventually gave bloodborne a shot cause I am a sucker for anything lovecraftian. Went back and played everything. Elden ring is all that's left.

2

u/SaltyInternetPirate Mar 25 '24

I think Minecraft might be the only entry for me. I'm aware enough of my tastes that usually if I don't care for a specific game, trying it won't change my mind. In fact I've developed a rule in the opposite direction that's highly accurate for me. If Vaush likes a game, I should avoid it. If he loves it, I should blacklist it. Doesn't work in the opposite direction for games he hates, though.

2

u/Sea_Jello7395 Mar 25 '24

God of War (2016). I didn't care much for the original ones so it took a LONG time for my buddy to convince me to give it a try. Needless to say...it was amazing...

2

u/Play174 Mar 24 '24

Ultrakill. I just kinda slept on it until a few months ago. I knew that it existed and I knew that I would probably like it, but I never bothered to check it out. I finally played the demo probably last summer and I was instantly hooked.

2

u/ZackMoh2 Mar 24 '24

Total Warhammer 2

2

u/Wlgwalker Mar 24 '24

I refused to play star citizen, I hated the sound of it, I hated how scammy the purchasing was, it all just felt uncomfortable. But one of my friends was essentially begging me to get it, and we ended up splitting the price for it, and I have LOVED it ever since

2

u/DarthE64 Mar 24 '24

I wasn’t really sleeping on it but the new suicide squad game. I didn’t think it was as bad as people were saying but I also wasn’t gonna play it but it’s actually really fun

2

u/Kerflunklebunny Mar 24 '24

Devil may cry 5 and Metal gear rising revengeance

1

u/Deadsap266 Mar 24 '24

I played metal gear rising just because of all the funny memes

2

u/Spacetookmylife Mar 24 '24

Deltarune. No clue why, just didn’t interest me as much as undertale

-1

u/urke_berci Mar 24 '24

Clash royale

2

u/Galahad908 Mar 24 '24

A regrettable dragons dogma I hated it for so long I just couldn't get into it, one day I sat down and played it and it all just clicked. Became a quick favorite and im very looking forward to sinking my teeth into the sequel

0

u/Asuryan17 Mar 24 '24

Ngl Fortnite.

1

u/SnooLemons2911 Mar 24 '24

Not me but my friend. Monster hunter world

2

u/sigma_overlord Mar 24 '24

Undertale. I played a little and wasn’t really in to it at first, but then the game picked up and turned out to be a masterpiece

1

u/Two_PointOh Mar 24 '24

I wasn't enjoying my first hour or so of dark souls 3, until my friend helped guide me to the first swamp area. Then I fell in love

2

u/just_a_normal_egg Mar 24 '24

Stardew valley looked so fuckin boring until my friend told me you could have sex in it so i decided to give it a try for the joke

130 hours in still haven’t had sex but love the game

2

u/ixatomicxi Mar 24 '24

I'm hoping to make OneShot this game for one of my friends

2

u/Theo_Jimin Mar 24 '24

Disco Elysium. Didn't like it initially because of all the damn reading, but oh boy am I glad I decided to continue playing it. Such an amazing experience of a game that I wish I could relive for the first time.

2

u/Loud_Ice4399 Mar 23 '24

For me it’s pizza tower

NOW BEFORE YOU DOWNVOTE ME I didn’t think it was bad i just thought it wasnt really my kinda game, but after a bit i had some spare money, it was on sale so im like “fuck it, lets try it” and holy shit its amazing

2

u/Chillies-69 Mar 23 '24

Introduced all my friends to War thunder. The snail requests new subjects

2

u/Deadsap266 Mar 23 '24

I’m always seeing ads for it on YouTube

1

u/Chillies-69 Mar 23 '24

Join us (don’t, for your own sake)

2

u/KEKW337 Mar 23 '24

Darkest Dungeon

2

u/Comic-Buff Mar 23 '24

That was Skyrim for me, I had never played a game like it and watching my friend play I was like... all you do is run in fields? 😂 Oh how wrong I was

2

u/ZestycloseCake165 Mar 23 '24

Dwarf Fortress

1

u/Zusagid Mar 23 '24

Project Zomboid for me.

Had a recent ex want me to play it with her. Bought it. Every time I went to play it, and just sitting at the main menu I would be like I don't feel like really playing this, and quit the game and decided to just watch her instead.
It wasn't until after we broke up that I officially played it with her... It wasn't until then, I realized how fun it was, and how much more fun I could have had when we was together...

2

u/ToxyFlog Mar 23 '24

Baldur's gate 3. Literally had no clue what it was when my friend peer pressured me into buying it. No regrets, I absolutely love the game. One of my all-time favorites.

2

u/Lorenz6969 Mar 23 '24

Road 96 an amazing game!

2

u/BaygettiXRS381 Mar 23 '24

Cyberpunk 2077. And now it is one of my favourite games

2

u/greedyblin Mar 23 '24

Dragons Dogma 2 right now.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '24

Kenshi.

Thought the art style looked trash, the concept was retarded….. we’re now here 700 hours later lmao

2

u/UncertifiedForklift Mar 23 '24

I am the friend in 9 cases of me introducing people to Warframe.

It unreasonably pissed me off when people badmouth the game because I have literally not failed to make someone like this game if they went and actually opened it

2

u/I_own_California Mar 23 '24

Undertale

Team Fortress 2

Rainbow Six Siege

Terraria

1

u/SanchoJimenez Mar 23 '24

Slay the spire. I never tried it thinking it's just another card game until I saw one of my friends playing it and I decided to give it a try. Now I have almost 100 hrs in 2 weeks...

2

u/Walesgobrr Mar 23 '24

Probably like minecraft, i found the game boring and lacking until we played with mods

2

u/TheMemeBadr Mar 23 '24

ori, both games

thought it was another indie game/hollow knight ripoff, so i decided to try it.
its an absolute masterpiece, ost is amazing, its also a pretty short game (blind forest), did 100% in 12 hours

i am just starting my playthrough for will of the wisps, and ive got to say till now it looks absolutely gorgeous and the game mechanics are so good, the main reason i decided to play the game was because it was on xbox gamepass.

also the game was released BEFORE hollow knight, but they do share simularities ill list some
will of the wisps took the idea of charms, and upslash
silksong took the idea of bash and made it kind of revamped

2

u/icyapple322 Mar 23 '24

Undertale, no me llamaba para nada y joder es gaming

1

u/joshthornton Mar 23 '24

Witcher 3.

2

u/spiritpanther_08 Mar 23 '24

Witcher 3 . I hated RPGs but this game is a balance of story and rpg .

Yes I do get overwhelmed sometimes but it's fun .

PS I am playing the game rn so please no spoilers !

2

u/DetectiveBulky3947 Mar 23 '24

7 Days to Die

was the game for me.

The graphics looked terrible and I thought it was a co-op game that only lasts 7 days, then you have to start all over again.

2

u/Igorkot_YT Mar 23 '24

in my case opposite i love rounds, but my friend was nahhhh i wont buy them even that they are just 5 bucks on steam. Guess what happened when i just said fuck it and bought it as steam gift - he plays it everyday!

2

u/Shot_Conflict1283 Mar 23 '24

It was the other way around, I made my friend try the finals after refusing to play it, 20 mins in and now he's addicted just like me

2

u/TheModdedOmega Mar 23 '24

Horizon Zero dawn, yeah the art was cool but I never bothered until a friend bought it for me, sat in my library for a few months until I got sick, I 100% that games multiple times over in a few months. genuinely love that gane

2

u/Piees Mar 23 '24

World of Warcraft. How can this new game compete with RuneScape?

Yeah, this was a while ago

2

u/Diocletian300 Mar 23 '24

Project Zomboid

Definitely the best and most realistic zombie survival game

2

u/oxidezblood Mar 23 '24

Ghost recon: wildlands

Said id buy a ps4 for a few years then when i finally did i got ghost recon and monster hunter: world

Both good games but ive bought 3 copies of wildlands, the bp and preordered the sequel breakpoint.

Still playing wildlands to this day

2

u/Adam_Yah Mar 23 '24

Marvel Midnight Suns!

2

u/Pericombobulator Mar 23 '24

I had Witcher 2 in my library for a year. Then gave it a go and was just drawn in. I immediately bought Witcher 3 after I'd completed it.

2

u/Patforceone Mar 23 '24

GTA V and I am not even joking. Bought the Game when it got released on PC just to play GTA Online with my friends. Never started the Single Player.

A few years later while hanging out at my place my smoke buddies started a Single Player Campaign after hearing I never Played it.

They played for a few Hours with me just chillin and watching them play. Didn‘t take long for me to realise how much I‘ve slept on this gem.

Played it through in one week after and became a huge Rockstar Fan ever since.

1

u/Deadsap266 Mar 23 '24

All my buddies play gta 5 religiously but for some odd reason I just couldn’t get into it.As a kid in high school I played so much vice city(my favorite gta to this day)and San Andreas but for some reason idk why gta v just doesn’t click with me.I think it might be because my tastes have drastically changed overtime.I prefer more linear games these days and the only open world game I’ve played in recent times is elden ring.

1

u/Travishow14 Mar 23 '24

This is kinda the other way round, 2 years ago i had a friend claim re7 was the best re game and we argued and one of his points was "the old games are bad" to which i respond "what game are you referring to" this stupid mf has that gaull to mutter "revelations 1" i bought every single resident evil remake. And forced him to play them. He ended up loving the series. I mean sure he can still say re7 is the best re game but at least this goofy mf now can say that while playing the older games, granted they are remakes so he got the better end of the stick

1

u/Hans_the_Frisian Mar 23 '24

Hunt Showdown.

Usually i absolutely hate Battle Royal and Extraction shooters but Hunt still kinda caught my interest due to the timeframe and the weapons which you don't often see in other games.

What stopped from getting the game though were the zombies and bosses because while i like some horror, i absolutely hate horror due to jumpscares, loud noises and stuff.

When a friend then told me he'd like to play the game with me i jumped over my own shadow and bought it.

I really started enjoying the game realising that the Zombies and stuff don't really jump you.

2

u/Starbotics_INC Mar 23 '24

Dead by daylight, still one of the most toxic communities I ever was in, but also one of the easiest to ignore and one of the funnest asymmetrical games I have ever played

2

u/cdkey_J23 Mar 23 '24

Mine was Days Gone..It was heavily critiqued at launch because of glitches..but once sony fixed it, it was a gem..sad that the sequel was cancelled by sony..I only got to play it for free with psplus last year & loved it.

2

u/FireRetrall Mar 23 '24

Stardew. Thought my wife was crazy at first with all her written notes and such. I probably have 500+ hours into it now lol

1

u/Stcloudy Mar 23 '24

The Divison, Monster Hunter World and I forget what others were almost peer pressured by friend and I ended up being a live service junkie. Destiny was in the mix too

1

u/FunkyKat45 Mar 23 '24

Last of us part 2

1

u/P1zzaman Mar 23 '24

It was Undertale.

Friend played it on release, finished it in a day from binge playing.

Sent me a Steam message on day two of release, saying “buy Undertale”.

I told him “dunno it looks like a cheap RPG trying to be Earthbound.” So he bought and gifted me a copy.

Was not disappointed.

2

u/A_random_Human1 Mar 23 '24

Dead Cells (i wish that frend didn't do this😞)

1

u/Significant-Talk3093 Mar 23 '24

Hollow Knight, I thought it was Just any other Metroidvania games in the Market but oh boy i was wrong, The Atmostphere, Level Design, Enemy Designs, Snappy Controls, The Story, The Soundtrack and Many More, Its like they Perfected the Metroidvania Formula. Great Game 10/10 . Still waiting for SilkSong

2

u/meehass Mar 23 '24

Fallout 76

2

u/Cybr_23 Mar 23 '24

genshin impact (f2p)

2

u/Trunks2929 Mar 23 '24

Persona 5. I have absolutely no interest in anime character design or story heavy long rpgs, but man once I started playing this one I was hooked. It’s easily one of the best games I’ve ever played

2

u/TiltedUnicorn Mar 23 '24

Outer wilds

2

u/kasumi04 Mar 23 '24

Alpha Protocol, was crapped on as Sega had a bad streak of games at the time. I played it to see if it was as awful as the reviews said. Turned out to be one of my favorite games in the same vein of Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Best Spy and Stealth game I have played to date. Please give it a try r/alphaprotocol

2

u/Juggerknight1 Mar 23 '24

Death Stranding, peak walking

1

u/Slyvan25 Mar 23 '24

Rainbow six seige

1

u/ShuvoRotto Mar 23 '24

Honestly? Minecraft. I was a hater till I played it

3

u/TwisterDash_ Mar 23 '24

Helldivers 2. When I saw the game, I thought, "It's one of those highly overrated games that I've never heard of", but MAAAN I was wrong. This game is really good, especially that it's not even full priced.

2

u/Few-Judgment3122 Mar 23 '24

Regrettably, Dota

2

u/FalconClaws059 Mar 23 '24

Outer Wilds!

I had to take a bit of convincing on my friends part because I confused it for The Outer Worlds.

When I cleared my mistake, I went and played what to this day is my favourite game ever.

2

u/CipherGamingZA Mar 23 '24

Half Life 2, Its decent and its coming from someone who isn't fond of fps games. Only paid $0.42 for it so its pretty decent.

2

u/AronRos Mar 23 '24

DRG “mushroom!”

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '24

Spec Ops: the Line

I was in for a surprise.

1

u/Deadsap266 Mar 23 '24

That ending was a gut punch

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '24

Having replayed it recently, I can agree.

People criticizing it nowadays is super weird.

2

u/NoCheesecake2520 Mar 23 '24

Midnight suns

2

u/Hot-Clothes-1908 Mar 23 '24

Uhmm... indies?

1

u/Deadsap266 Mar 23 '24

Which ones ? I love indies

1

u/anuslikker99 Mar 23 '24

Yakuza games, not really thought they were bad, but just very boring, but boy was I wrong.

2

u/Rough_Memory1089 Mar 23 '24

Genshin

Hate me all you want, I'm you afterall before I play the fucking gambling casino game with anime

1

u/Outside_Interview_90 Mar 23 '24

Wife recommended Sleeping Dogs to me a few years back. Didn’t think it would be bad or anything, but just didn’t see how it could possibly be as amazing as she claimed it was. I’m sorry, babe. I see the light now.

1

u/Reverberer Mar 23 '24

The reverse of this but alpha protocol, i played it and it was great, buggy sure but thats par for the course nowadays,he refused to play it for years, till one say i forced him to play it and he loved it and wished theyd been sequel same as me.

1

u/Fantastic-Cry-6653 Mar 23 '24

Last Of Us, thought it was another average zombie game

-2

u/Puhaszem Mar 23 '24

This is the lowest effort, shittiest meme I've ever seen

1

u/DiamondEclipse Mar 23 '24

Saints Row 2 and 4, heard bad things and good things about them and generally it didn't feel like my type of game. I had a look at the trailers and intro cutscenes, ended up being repulsed by it.

Then my friend bought me SR4 and i gave it a try, man was i amazed and entranced, customization is excelent and combat is great, shame cars got ignored due to having powers.

Then i found out SR2 is free on Humble Bundle, so what the hell, might aswell see what it was like. I got flabbergasted about how i have to play mini-games to actually progress the story, it threw me off and made me want to quit playing... year after i reinstalled and phew, glad i did. The mini-games i chose were pretty hard initially, but going out to other places made it so much easier and i got a good story going on, being able to choose which factions to tackle was fantastic and i cannot express how much fun Saints Row 2 is.

Never buying the modern game though, i know that's not it.

1

u/Psycho_yandere_101 Mar 23 '24

Monster hunter world, elden ring

1

u/dion101123 Mar 23 '24

My friend am I gift each other games we think the other would like on Xmas. First year he gave me mount and blade warband. I remember looking at the clock and going "oh its 3:30am I should probably go to sleep and checking my hours and seeing something like 130hrs in the last 2 weeks and realizing oh shit I'm really addicted to this game

1

u/khhs1671 Mar 23 '24

The entire Persona franchise(basically).

My turn-based experience pre-persona-5 was pokemon diamond and M&L: Bowsers Inside Story. Disliked combat a LOT in both of them.

Then I tried persona and fell in love with the combat. Then 5 Strikers introduced me to that sorta gameplay and I had a blast in battles.

Honestly the entire franchise just got me into a number of game styles I've always thought weren't "for me".

Yet to play P4AU, might be the first 2D fighter I get to truly enjoy.

1

u/chrstianelson Mar 23 '24

Age of Empires 2.

Completely blew my mind. Started a lifelong interest in strategy games.

Man, I wish I could play it for the first time again. That was an awesome feeling.

1

u/RussianThundy Mar 23 '24

Helldivers 2, I thought it was gonna be the 1000000th shitty extraction shooter, but he nagged me so much I eventually bought it, and now I can't stop playing.

1

u/Soldierhero1 Mar 23 '24

Slept on risk of rain 2

Boy was i wrong

1

u/FreePhoenix888 Mar 23 '24

Red Dead Redemption 2, Prey

1

u/Rootsyl Mar 23 '24

hollow knight. I was thinking it would be just average but OH LORD HOW I WAS WRONG

1

u/hyskills Mar 23 '24

Dota 2.

I generally don't like MOBAs but Dota2 is really good despite not my thing.

1

u/roboticgracecyborg Mar 23 '24 edited Mar 23 '24

well...unfortunately none, but I may have one game that some of you may be sleeping on.

metal gear solid v the phantom pain.

unlike the other metal gear solid games, this one emphasizes on gameplay rather than story.(the other ones are known to bombard you with so much information that you barely get to process it).

the gameplay is crazy addicting.

you kidnap terrorists, you make them your allies and they develop better weapons and equipment for you.

I have got 32 hours on this game, the game tells me that I have about 9% completion rate.

you can skip all the other games in the series if you are unfamiliar with this franchise.

this game feels more like a spin-off anyway.

also note that I don't know how it differs with the other metal gear solid v game, ground zeroes.

I know that it is a sequel to that one.

2

u/MeowZen Mar 23 '24

This meme format is great. Deadly Premonition is mine.

The gameplay is terrible. It looks bad. The story is nonsensical and illogical. The NPC's are completely unrealistic. All side-quests are boring. The dialogue seems to be written by someone who only knows the US through tv-series. The developer just wanted to tell a story but was forced to put action scenes in this game and it shows. All action scenes feel sarcastic with every boring enemy saying "I don't want to die" before they die.

All of those ingredients create a hilarious screenshot of games from the early 2000's. It's the game equivalent of "The Room"

1

u/Exploding_Testicles Mar 23 '24

Was talked into playing Mass Effect for the first time. So far the first one is meh.. but I'm still in the citadel scanning keepers..

1

u/Isenjil Mar 23 '24

7 days to die.

It's clearly another game when you play it with your bud

1

u/MembershipWeird378 Mar 23 '24

Unironically, it's Fallout 76, it's just so good. Already have 600+ hours on this game for 2023-2024 alone. When it would've taken me 2-3 years more to achieve that many hours.

1

u/dan01iel Mar 23 '24

Monster Hunter. Honestly all of them.

1

u/Judlex15 Mar 23 '24

Terraria

1

u/Diverture Mar 23 '24

No mans sky. Launch was as it was but now its really good.

1

u/RitchieRED Mar 23 '24

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic

When I got my XBox I got a bundle with Amped and KOTOR. Love snowboarding (loved 1080) so amped was the reason I got it. Never been a Star Wars fan so I had no interest what so ever in KOTOR. I wake up one morning and my sister is playing it. First RPG and one of my favourite games of all time.

1

u/YourAverageDumbass7 Mar 23 '24

The Witcher 3 waited 6 years and my god what a game

Earth defense force, seemed boring with a horrible graphics style and clunky menu but after getting used to the negatives i put in 200 hours

1

u/LookAway_FromThis Mar 23 '24

Persona games , My friends talked alot about them but i tought it was kinda Bad, then i decided to try p3p and yeah now i'm gonna play all of them

1

u/murdocbutt Mar 23 '24

Funny enough i showed the game to him first, but i didnt have much interest in it, until he made me play it.

1

u/QueenCobra91 Mar 23 '24

buddy bought me borderlands 3 a couple days ago. now we are grinding hard and im having the most fun since cyberpunk 2077

1

u/khatmar Mar 23 '24

Final Fantasy XIV

1

u/Ok-Tumbleweed-1936 Mar 23 '24

This will be my friend when I finally get her to play omori

1

u/Valascrow Mar 23 '24

Diablo 3... never played an ARPG before as always felt they were puny games (I was a typical 'triple AAA shooter is king' casual back then). Now, they're all I play! Lol

1

u/Emtae2 Mar 23 '24

Dokapon Kingdom was NOT something I expected to be fun at all. Before it came to steam, we played the Wii version at my friend's request (he hadn't played it either),and I honestly just didn't like what I saw and heard prior to giving it a shot.... But yo wtf this is actually great and unironically fun. Me and the boys are getting drunk tomorrow playing the steam version.

1

u/Huddunkachug Mar 23 '24

Dark souls 3. Took my best friend 3 or 4 attempts over the span of a year or so. Attempt 1: me getting pissed I couldn’t beat gundyr. Attempt 2: me getting pissed I couldn’t beat gundyr. He said he’d offer tips but I refused. Masochism. Attempt 3: finally beat gundyr, joined two friends with thousands of hours, and after that amount of time they were just pvp swamp gremlins.

I did not enjoy that at all since I barely understood the mechanics or what the game was about. That commenced the longest break I’d take from the game.

Attempt 4: Many moons later I was bored one night and thought fuck it I’ll give another go around 8pm, but solo, so I can actually play the story and figure out what’s going on at a slow pace. After a few hours I was hooked and unintentionally played till the sun came up and then some.

Unbeknownst to me, I was online on steam and disc that whole time. Finally closed the game around 10am and within minutes get a message on disc from best friend “so how was it.” I was about to type how the fuck did you know that, then saw the green dot next to me on disc and just asked how long he’s been spying. Homie was like “I’ve been periodically checking in since you got on last night. Went to bed at 3, woke up at 9 and saw you were still goin lol.” Homeboy knows me too well. Knew I had to get the basics and fall in love on my own before interjecting.

Helldivers. Was hating it, bought it, now my opinion is that it's ok

1

u/DNCOrGoFuckYourself Mar 23 '24

As an avid top down game hater, Project Zomboid. It’s fucking hard but really enjoyable. Unfortunately, that’s one of those “sit down and play 6 hours or not at all” games.

Also Civ Rev, same reasoning.

1

u/Viper_23 Mar 23 '24

Hades. That was my first roguelite game. I've played so many more because of that.

1

u/TheCri Mar 23 '24

Brotato

1

u/SoulHunter665 Mar 23 '24

Your only move is Hustle. Didn't like it at first then my brother made me play with him once and since then i have the game.

1

u/TomBourgaize Mar 23 '24

Witcher 3, spent ages taking the piss out of the name every time my friend told me I needed to play it, finally got the game of the year edition, put 300 hours into it and it’s probably the best game I’ve ever played.

1

u/Minty-Boii Mar 23 '24

Fallout New Vegas

I got just the base game, trecked my way to the Sharecropper Farms, then lost interest cause I didn't know what to do next

Next playthrough I turned on cheats and the pieces all started falling into place

1

u/Marinenukem Mar 23 '24

Beat Saber. Before I got my VR, I only knew it as “the only VR game that everybody wants to try,” and I kinda dismissed it. Now it’s pretty much the only thing I play on my headset.

1

u/iswhack_a_doodle Mar 23 '24

Outer Wilds. Got it recommended to me for years until they gave up and gifted it to me. Hands down one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had. Just WOW. Music, atmosphere, great environments and the greatest story I’ve encountered.

1

u/Own_Sherbet_2347 Mar 23 '24

Cyberpunk 2077 and Rocket League. Ironically these are the two games that I have the most hours of playing.

1

u/Shadow_Bisharp Mar 23 '24

red dead 2. favourite game of all time

1

u/Sergeant-Detritus Mar 23 '24

DRAGONS DOGMA 2!

1

u/Dexember69 Mar 23 '24

Rocket league.

I have no interest in soccer. And I'm not a racing or car fan. Why the FK would I wanna play soccer with cars?

I gave in recently after years of poo-pooing it.

I'll admit when I've been horribly wrong - it's a lot of fun, I had no idea. Now I'm Lvl 180 or something

1

u/Drake_Storm Mar 23 '24

Team fortress 2 (now one of my all time favorites)

1

u/Ok-Computer2914 Mar 23 '24

I don't own helldivers 2, but I'm looking forward to playing it

1

u/ThebanannaofGREECE Mar 23 '24

With me it was a game I made my friend play, Rain World. After I got him to play it with me he went and beat all 8 campaigns when I had only beaten like 3.

1

u/MinerDiner Mar 23 '24

Any game my friends make me play even when I think it's not good, I still end end not liking it. Especially multi-player games. They throw me in the fray with their high level characters, already knowing all the ins and outs of playing the game, amd then there's me that has no idea what the fuck to do. It's not fun

1

u/tinywitchkara Mar 23 '24

Just fighting games in general shits so fun (big entry barrier ofc) but if u can get past it, they're really fun

1

u/PickingMyButt Mar 23 '24

Dragons Quest XI Definitive Edition! Such a guilty pleasure

1

u/jake753 Mar 23 '24

Waaaay late but Red Dead Redemption 2. I played for the first hour and found the controls clunky, the story dry, and the story to be incredibly slow. My brother praised the game so much that I gave it a second chance. What an absolutely beautiful game.

1

u/IAmTheAwesomeNarwhal Mar 23 '24

Shovel Knight. I thought the concept was stupid, but my sister convinced me to play it finally and I loved it. What a fantastic game.

1

u/neshipop Mar 23 '24

Fortnite honestly. Originally I stayed away because my impression of it wasn't great. I had two initial impressions of the game, and thought that everyone who played fortnite fit into one of two categories.

A cringe child.

Or a sweaty basement dweller who plays 24/7.

I saw it as way too competitive or cringe. So I never picked it up.

Eventually I learned about no build mode. I figured it might be a more casual experience. And it was! I enjoyed my first ever fortnite game. I dropped solo and won the first match I had ever played. It gave me a momentary rush to see the victory Royale screen.

But none of my friends played so I stopped after that one game.

Months later, my friend starts playing, and I decide to try again at it..

Nowadays, it's mostly rocket racing for me.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

I gave up on it the first time playing. I’m a bit Fromsoft guy and, like many, was expecting a more Eastern Dark Souls. When the game wasn’t that I dropped it. A friend of mine promised to play Dark Souls if I gave Sekiro a try and once I got over the wall (Genichiro) of my first time the game clicked with me and I fell in love. Got every achievement soon after and have replayed it a number of times.

u/ANOCLYDER Mar 23 '24

Among us 🗿

2

u/goboxey Mar 23 '24

Marvel's midnight suns.

I enjoyed it, despite having a Marvel's avengers, before playing it.

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Bunny-3 Mar 23 '24

Morrowind Thought graphics were lame. I'm still ashamed to this day and regret not discovering it earlier! To replay it in VR is amazing too!

2

u/MartinEdge182 Mar 23 '24

Brotato... I always thought " why does this guy play that game so much, he talks about it all the time, it doesn't look like much, it's just hanging around and surviving" and it's like cocaine when you start playing xD!!!!!

2

u/minimeza Mar 23 '24

League sadly

2

u/Smodphan Mar 23 '24

Outward. My wife played for 10 minutes and said it was too hard solo, but she wanted to play coop for adventuring. I told her no it didn't look fun. We've put in 5-600 hours in coop having the best time.

2

u/IvanSpartan Mar 23 '24

I’m the friend recommending Monster Hunter: World to a friend

Not that the game gets bad rep but cuz he doesn’t see the difference between MH:W and Dauntless

2

u/idogadol Mar 23 '24

Warframe, thought it was horribly P2W because of the UI making it seem so, and a friend told me it's the complete opposite.

2

u/BrStriker21 Mar 23 '24

Reverse Collapse: Bakery Girl

It's an amazing TBS that was review bombed by some Chinese players

2

u/VerseGen Mar 23 '24

a friend had me try Star Citizen in 2021, I've been playing since. Still love it, I'm deep into the community. I know this sub tends to hate SC, but it's really a great game I'm glad I play.

1

u/aleryon__ Mar 23 '24

I really hope the public opinion turns around once squadron comes out.

1

u/VerseGen Mar 23 '24

as do I. I'm oart if the SC discord server's news staff so I get to work closely with CIG, and they're all such amazing people. Every single developer for the game is so passionate about the project.

2

u/wingsofthygiant Mar 23 '24

Helldivers 2, I thought it was an overhyped shooter just like any other, I got it fully expecting to play with my friend for maybe 30 mins and request a refund. We played for the next 7 hours straight and I have never had this much fun with any other shooter game. It’s addictive and fun, completely understand the hype behind it!

2

u/Sterling-Bear15 Mar 23 '24

Deus Ex

Refused to play because of outdated graphics and age.

Decided to finally try it and didn't stop playing until I finished it, amazing.

2

u/L4k373p4r10 Mar 23 '24

Doki Doki Literature Club, Saya no Uta, Valheim and Trails of Cold Steel I.

2

u/Isfren Mar 23 '24

South of the circle

2

u/smallchocolatechip Mar 23 '24

Dark souls. I didn’t have much interest in it but then I started dating my gf who loves it and made me play it. It’s now one of my favorite game series

2

u/Rogar_Rabalivax Mar 23 '24

Hades. The main image always sold me that zagreus was an edgy teenager with a very edgy / pretentious story. But turns out tje game was GODLIKE and i slept on it for the longest time.

2

u/LossFar4040 Mar 23 '24

Helldivers 2. I wasn't going to touch it as I prefer single player to live service. I decided to give it a try and if I didn't like it I could refund it. 100+ hours of playtime now. That game is bloody incredible.

2

u/nalrats Mar 23 '24

Deep Rock Galactic and Helldivers 2

2

u/Sunkenv2 Mar 23 '24

Deep Rock Galactic.

2

u/Cicada97 Mar 23 '24

Tom Clancy Wildland.

2

u/mostlywaterbag Mar 23 '24

Noita. Took me years to finally try it and boy what a great game it is.
