Cyberpunk 2077 from day 1. Loved this game and NEVER saw any of the issues that everyone complained about.
It was weird.

Anthem
Don’t get me wrong, it’s shit in a lot of ways. But I’ll be damned if it doesn’t have some of the best gameplay. Flying around in the mechs and killing things feels sooooo damn good.

Outward. It's got some intended tedium and can be a bit janky, but it's genuinely one of my favorite rpgs. So many cool mechanics

El Shaddai: Ascension Of The Metatron. Got quite the critical paddling at time of release, but I was interested in its story and unique looking style and played it anyway. Absolutely loved it. It's got a few rough edges but it's aesthetically incredible, the fluid graphics, the gorgeous colors and music, the bizarre take on apocryphal biblical mythology - it's like a really good drug trip.

Battlefield 2042. The negative points many BF fans bring up are even positive ones for me. That its more like CoD, operators, able to do more impact as solo player etc.

Cyberpunk 2077 at launch.
Everyone ragged on the game for the bugs, meanwhile I was playing it just fine for hours and hours on end on PC. I even progressed very far when I bought the game, and I bought it literally two weeks after launch. I never regretted it, it’s still the best game I’ve ever played.

I love pirating steam games, specifically without paying money to valve and getting better versions of the game that dont need to be activated

Flatout apocalypse to be honest.
It was my childlhood game and still to this day playing it I have fun.
That's why for me it was strange when I check it on steam and saw mid rating o.o

I first downloaded Cyberpunk back when it was on patch 1.31 just to see how bad it was and joke to my friends about it. That first night, I played for five straight hours and was hooked. I knew it was incomplete, as it was filled with both hilarious and infuriating technical shortcomings that were just weird for an expensive AAA game. I still loved it. Now (especially with patch 2.12 and Phantom Liberty), it's my favorite game.

Arashi Castles of Sin Final Cut, the Quest version, I’ve completed it and playing it again, this game is a blast and it’s fun, the reviews lied about this game

u/xelgameshow Mar 20 '24
Resident Evil 6. I can understand why people hate it, but i was never a fan of the series, so i played it like the very action slightly horror game it is, and honestly? It's fun. Leon's campaign feels more resident evil'y, but with just the right amount of action to not get boring for me. Chris and Jake's feel like fun B-tier action movies, but the horror's gone and dead, i don't care. Ada and her campaign can go jump off a fridge.

Going in with the mindset that it's pretty much a fan-game, and I actually had fun with it. Can't wait for the 3DS release!

Vampire Survivors
The game is so freaking addicting. If I describe the game in any way it will sound dumb, just download it and play it and curse my name 3 weeks from now for suggesting it.

Forspoken, a lot of people said the game was trash to put it lightly. I saw the graphics and combat and gave it a shot. The game is really solid imo, I actually really enjoyed it

u/SgtSwatter-5646 Mar 20 '24
I really try to avoid reviews of anything... I find that opinions of most people are based on how popular they want to appear to the other people that have already given their opinions, or if they want to agree with someone that is "internet famous"

u/Sad_Efficiency_3978 Mar 20 '24
Shadow of Rome for PS2.
The stealth gameplay is absolute trash. Like some of the worst I've seen from a reasonable publisher (Capcom).
The final battle is ridiculously cheap. Never actually beat it.
Everything else is SO FUN. Super badass violent combat action against gladiators and wild beasts.
2
u/Sister-Aoife Mar 20 '24
The Medium.
Though it has it's problems, it was still interesting enough to make it to the end.
A high 7/10 or a low 8/10 from me

Bratz: Flaunt Your Fashion. I have loved the Bratz ever since I was a kid so I really enjoyed being back in the world of it! Also I steamed it for my friends so it made the game even more special

Resident evil 6. Honestly it was such a fun game to play. Not really like other Resident evil games but still it was chaotic and awesome.
2
u/nachobrick Mar 19 '24
MegaMan X6 I liked and prefer X6 over X7
The weapons were cool, and the levels are ok I guess, And the music is the best part. The intro for X6 is so good that I could listen to it on loop
The mechanics are the worst part about the game but even with that I still find it enjoyable and fun

For me it was Final Fantasy XIII. I'll preface by saying that I spent many years playing Final Fantasy XI, a game that features a massive world to explore, and tons of different things to do. I played XIII about 6 years after its release, and after having read about how linear and boring it was.
To me, the linearity and focus of XIII felt refreshingly different from the massive grindfest and endless chores to do in XI. The story went overboard (happens to all FF games, so I'm used to it), but overall I really enjoyed how it was streamlined and implemented thoughtful aspects that cut down on the waiting time, such as fully healing my party after a battle. Why enter the menu screen constantly just to waste my time using healing spells or items? Cutting back on the filler, made XIII fantastic to me. Well except for the Treasure Hunter Trophy / Achievement which was the only boring slog aspect of the game, since that single Trophy / Achievement doubles the length of the your playtime.

Lords Of the Fallen. Lots of souls fans hated it just for being competition. My friend and I had a great time with it though. It improves on souls games in a lot of ways like having more attack options per weapon type, seamless co-op, actually viable pure magic builds, a single second chance per life or opting into one-life/hard mode for bonus souls and item drops, and they actually managed to balance parrying pretty well so that it's not one-shot or get one-shot anymore.
We ended up playing it through about 3-4 times. The NG+ adds a decent challenge, unlike Elden Ring's NG+, adds new enemy spawn locations and basically does all the things DS2 did right with it's NG+s. There are 3 different endings and plenty of quests. A few of them are pretty obtuse but that's not exactly new for souls-like games.
There have also been constant patches and updates adding substantial things into the game like multiple new spells, weapons and even a few optional bosses.
I'd highly recommend that people give it a try.

u/Heathcliff511 Mar 19 '24
Resident Evil 6. Got hate as the 'downwards trend' in RE games which is fair enough, but its a fun game to play through with a friend. I think if you played it all solo and compared it to RE4 or whatever you didnt really give it a fair shot.

u/FortuneAdventurous99 Mar 19 '24
Driver 3: I love GTA, but Police chases are simple and easy to evade compared to any Driver and back in the day the car damage visual where fantastic.
Watchdog: I really loved the story and the gameplay was a combination of Driver, Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed.
Starfield: I kinda enjoy it, not the best game made by Bethesda of course, but it was interesting and the best quest for me is Entangled.

Ryse: son of Rome, it was free with gold back in the day on Xbox and I played through it when I was younger and had a TON of fun.
Didn't realize it pretty much killed it's developer and was loathed on release until a couple months ago when I heard it brought up for the first time in like a decade.

It happened to me with NiER (Gestalt) on Xbox 360 in 2010. The game had a 5/10 in Gamekult (famous video game site in France). It also had mixed review in other reviews.
The game was quite something actually. So much that it had a remaster which scored very well.
I also had a lot of fun with Star Ocean 4.
There are actually not so many bad games nowadays. Back in the 80s, there were quite a bunch of sloppy or unplayable games with ludicrous difficulty curves and shoddy gameplay. Today, bad games are boring or lack originality, which is not really a showstopper.

Dead space 3: It tried so hard to be RE6 that I think it pulled it off better than RE6. Yes, there's barely any horror and everything looks like black ops zombies, however, the formula is still there, kinda and it's still fun, very fun and gory.

But I still like the game.

Arcanum of Steamworks and Magick Obscura! Baldurs Gate like game developed by Sierra and Troika. A decent engaging story. Actions have consequences to the point that followers will straight up leave or attack you if you do something they view as really bad. You even get a pet dog. Overall the game is fun and engaging, but is riddled with random bits of glitches and stutters that have in the past broken the game. Save often. I think it's on steam at $2.

Im going to be buried under downvotes, but for me its Postal 3. Despite its many flaws, some of the jokes were actually funny and the shooting wasnt that bad (for a postal game, obviously). Honestly its a miracle that rws and a team they hired, zoom platform, managed to make this game somewhat playable.

Tom Clancy’s Endwar. The near-future military RTS was fun! It’s units fit into simple rock-paper-scissors archetypes but getting all of those units working in concert in a “realistic” battle was amazing. Even the guaranteed WMD drop on your head is crazy and exciting. You think you’re winning and then “high intensity laser strike detected!” And your prized soldiers are lost in a blast brighter than the sun. Infamously you commanded your army by voice commands which is equal parts fun and frustrating.

Harvest Moon 64: The reviewer did not have a properly translated manual or did not read it and the game was a magnitude better / more playable if you read the manual and discover there were shortcuts on the C-buttons.
Gotcha Force on Gamecube: Reviewer(s) sucked at the game and harped on too much about the voice acting, it was really fun once you learned the game mechanics.

Battlefield 2042. Still to this day I always say the reason it got review bombed was because of a cod smeer campaign. There wasn't a thing wrong with 2042 (other than hovercraft going up buildings which is honestly more entertaining than annoying) but cod vanguard was a shitshow and yet there was so much 2042 hate and no one was talking about vanguard
