"We blew the lead, we had them"
"DLo was red hot this time but Rui and Austin sucked"
"Refs missed calls"
At some point, we need to enable the "We are not as good as Denver" arguement.
We won't have 4 winning games where all 5 of our players play fantastically, this is not happening. We're not as good as Denver, we're the 7 seed playing the 2 seed, it's not a difficult series to solve.

Is Jokic the Tyson Fury of Basketball? He seems to be gypsy and always jinxing the Lakers😅
2
u/jeaanj3443 10d ago
Jokic quietly dominating with near triple-doubles is just another day at the office for him. His consistency is unreal.

I’m just trying to enjoy it. I have never seen a favorite team win a championship before last year. I never imagined that Jokic would ascend to the heights that he has. It’s just glorious.

I really do think this is a better series for Denver. I rather Lakers than Pelicans…

Denver 3peat secured then. A 20 point lead couldn't stop them.
1
u/WATGU 10d ago
Each quarter is a mirror of the other. Q1/Q3 and Q2/Q4. A perfect example of whatever we did to them they can do to us. I tell this to every team I play on at rec level when I see us slacking with a lead.
The hardest part is there were times in this game where lakers were up by 20 but against a team this good and a game this fast paced it just doesn’t matter.
As far as I can tell nobody on LA can guard jokic. It’s devastating to blow such a big lead. Also devastating to lose on a circus shot when you had an easy shot to seal it on the other end.
I don’t see them winning any games unless they can get Jokic out of the game with foul trouble, techs, or injuries. The Nugget big 3 and role players are just better.
As a Kings fan I can’t say I’m sad by it though.

Are the nuggets the least-hated title favorites of the past 10 or so years?

Yeah for real, all those bullshit calls that Lebron got really kept this game close.

I'm a bonafied laker hater. I think I left in the middle of the 2nd quarter to go run some errands thinking the lakers were having themselves a game. I checked the score a few times while I was out and see the score ballooned to a 20 point deficit. I thought the lakers had it. I returned home and it was the middle of the 4th. LOL. I thought how the fuck they... Loved watching the end of that quarter and seeing the lakers lose the way they did was a great way to end the day.

You guys remember the scene in Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom when Mola Ram reaches into that dude's chest and pulls out his still-beating heart? Cackles like a maniac while the heart catches fire?
I mention this apropos of nothing at all...
1
u/roberiquezV2 10d ago
We can pinpoint the moment that the Lakers lost heart/momentum.
It was when DLO got smacked in the face on a layup in the 4th. Camera footage was clear as day. Denver Refs were like: it's all good, unless Dlo has a broken nose and fractured eye socket we're gonna let it go.
What. The. Actual. Fuck.

u/UltraMonarch 10d ago
I was there. I’ve been a nuggets fan for my whole life, and I never thought anything would be better than last year but being there, ten rows up from the nuggets bench, to get to see that happen in real time, to feel the electricity… I’m gonna remember this for the rest of my fucking life man holy shit.

I went to bed after the 3rd quarter bc it looked like it was the Lakers night. I woke up pleasantly surprised
2
u/DismalScreen6290 10d ago
Every nuggets Lakers game is the same. Lakers always choking at the end lol
2
u/demsouls Raptors 10d ago
I love every possession that Jamal walks into the lane with reaves trying to play defense behind him. And Jamal just walks and throws it up, literally got him back into the groove, chipped away all the lead, then set up the game winner.
Idk what defensive scheme Lakers are running with reaves behind the ball all the time trying to play catch up. Maybe Westbrook is better after all.
1
u/Healingvizion 10d ago
I’m convinced Lebron would have 2 more titles and been GOATED if it weren’t for that light skin cat Curry and that homey from Europe Jokic.
2
u/EliachTCQ 10d ago
Jamal's game winner gets all the attention, but the reality is the game was already lost by the Lakers. No way in hell they would've won it in OT. The game was lost when Lebron missed the 3.

nuggets had more FT's than LA? wowza. guess the refs are like "if you aint gonna use em then we ain't gonna give em to ya."

Nuggets win with only 2 players besides Jokic shooting over 50% (MPJ and Braun). The refs not helping the Lakers was a notable change from previous games. Nuggets showing the real clutch time execution once again.

u/KingKongDoom Nuggets 10d ago
It’s funny how Jokic can have a historic night and it feel mid. I feel like I’m out here watching Jerry Garcia in his prime every night and I’m unable to fully appreciate it no matter how bad I want to.
3
u/MileHi49er Nuggets 10d ago
That's facts.
ANY other player in the league drops 27-20-10 in the playoffs, and that would unquestionable be the leading story in all of sports the next day.
Jokic does it, and it's barely mentioned as a footnote. Something about the way he is able to do it is just so effortless that it comes across pedestrian...

Watching Jokic in the post is absolutely amazing.
I get Davis was winded but this is still a top defender getting absolutely worked by the joker
That’s not even a slight against AD, he was simply helpless down the stretch. Ball fakes, step through moves, spins and up and unders
Just beautiful to witness.

What a gut wrenching loss. Up 20 and about to break your losing streak against the champ Nuggets, only to blow the lead and lose on a buzzer beater in the face of the guy who just complained about not being considered a DPOY
Just brutal
Edit: holy shit how could I forget AD getting trapped in the Nuggets celebration. Fucking loss of the year

1
u/leaguethrowaway1996 10d ago
Man if we can’t win a game when Dlo shoots 7-11 from three there’s no world in which this is anything other than a sweep. It’s sad for me that Lebron is still playing at this level but likely won’t have anything to show for it with regard to shifting the GOAT debate. I’m not firmly in either MJ or Lebron’s camp but it seems like the reality is that the only thing which might move the needle is another Lebron title, and it sure looks like that ain’t happening.
4
u/juandell Heat 10d ago edited 10d ago
Why would it be sad for you?
MJ/LeBron GOAT camps seem to fundamentally value different things. I don't think another championship would really move the needle on people's GOAT opinions, maybe in people's top 10 ranking wherever a person had LeBron.
If he did win another title with a team would've taken more time for less rings, sub 500 finals record, 9 less scoring titles, short a DPOY, no dynasty, etc.
I think fans old enough to see a 3peat have a very different idea/opinion of what greatness and dominance is compared to younger ones. It's all subjective at the end of the day.
1
u/Shikizion 10d ago
So we can actually call this a Jokic casual triple double... It seemed like this time all he wanted was Jamal to play and still he comes out with a triple double, wtf is that man

In another universe somewhere way out there, we win this game. Take control of the series. Play Lakers basketball. Go all the way to the finals. Beat the Celtics. Stun the world. But no, we had to lose this game and sadly live in a different universe.

When he's playing with Bronny next year on the only team dumb enough to give Junior a contract, we'll all have enough comedy to make it worth it.
4
u/Abject_Bank_9103 10d ago
You can generalize a teams core characteristics in 4 areas:
Physical attributes (size, athleticism)
Player skills (shooting, dribbling, defending, etc)
Team chemistry
Team strategy (coaching comes in here mainly, and players like LeBron/Jokic/CP3 who are your floor generals)
For a team to win a series, you typically need to be better than your opponent in AT LEAST one of the above. They're not all created equal either - strategy and chemistry are more important imo than physical attributes.
But the Lakers are not better than the nuggets in any of these. That's why you see a game going almost perfectly for the Lakers, and so poorly in many ways for the nuggets, yet the nuggets still won.
I just don't see a way for them to win 4 of the last 5
1
u/MassiveTelevision387 10d ago
Gonna suck for Lebron's legacy to end being curb stomped by a fat white guy 12 times in a row.
5
u/juandell Heat 10d ago
I wouldn't call him fat. Also it wouldn't be less embarrassing if he wasn't white. He loses a lot, a whole dynasty was built on top of him. His legacy will be fine.

The greatest robbery in NBA history was when the Nuggets picked up Jokic in the second round of the draft. The second greatest robbery in NBA history was when Aaron Gordon didn't win the dunk contest, thrice. And the third greatest robbery in NBA history will happen if Jamal Murray never gets selected to an all-star game. This team just plays with chips on their shoulders.

One thing about Jokic and Murray; they just keep going. Bad half or quarter? Doesn’t matter, Jokic and Murray both going to get their stats. The Nuggets starting five just really click together. Nuggets have to keep that 5 and just build around them as long as they can.

AD is a great defender, just not elite. Maybe DPOY type candidate at points but he really doesn’t shut down the lane like you would expect. Murray got some rhythm at the end of the game by driving inside for layups. I can remember two drives where AD was there in the lane but for some reason didn’t really contest, like he was afraid to leave his guy. So end result is Murray with an easy layup. Not sure how you want to be DPOY with defense like that.
2
u/ronk48 Lakers 10d ago
Nuggets just too good. Lebron and AD gassed by the end and nuggets execute to perfection. Same script every game. Some of the calls were awful though. Dlo gets raked across the face and no call. Lebron getting called for that ticky tack foul on Murray at the end when they had been letting them play physical all night

I was just thinking. This is probably the worst playoff game I've seen Jokic play in the playoffs since last year against Minnesota but he still got a 27-20-10. Dude was legit getting made a bitch by a supernova hot AD at one point and he still arguably outplayed AD when all was said and done. Fucking amazing.
The ask on AD is massive this series. Play like "the guy" on offense, guard Jokic the entire fucking game, stay out of foul trouble, and battle on the boards against a bigger team as the sole big. How many bigs in NBA history would even be capable of that? Duncan, KG, Hakeem, Kareem, Shaq? Giannis and Embiid? Wilt and Russell if you wanted to add the old heads? Shit is crazy.
Of note, any non-AD Laker big on Jokic is just not it. I know AD was in foul trouble, but Jokic is treating any non-AD big like Shaq used to treat Pollard. His eyes light up knowing it's BBQ chicken. A truly impossible position.

The announcers drool over everything lebron does. they say nothing when he has a bad turnover or the fact he misses a free throw near the end then misses a wide open three.Meanwhile murray has had more big clutch plays in the last 2 seasons than lebron has had in ten years.Lebron is all time but his clutch gene has always been average for a guy that's been to itleast 10 finals he doesn't have many big time clutch shots as you would think.Again lebron is all time but he seems to fade down the stretch. This game he hit some big shots in the fourth qtr. When he missed the wide open 3 to seal it the greatest to ever do it in my mind comes into question. Did jordan ever miss a shot like that. You can always find a flaw in any one Lebron is all time great but to be fair his clutch gene isn't all time.He seems to get a pass when it comes that part of his game.
