People are so sensitive these days, guys getting tossed out because the ump thought you were whispering under your breath.
1
u/Cowclops 9d ago
The most concerning thing about all this isn’t that Boone got ejected, it’s one game, there are plenty more to go. It’s the “reality is what I say it is” attitude of umps. Never mind angel hernandez’s bad calls, since you can’t be fired for poor call quality.
There doesn’t even need to be an apology. Just an admission that sometimes calls are wrong and sometimes they affect the game but throwing out a coach for the actions of somebody in the stands shouldn’t be part of the game.
Accept reality then move on. Nobody had their feelings hurt but the umps attitude was basically “I don’t care, you’re gone.” No full house style hugs. Just a “whooops, guess it wasn’t Boone yelling” and that’s it.
1
u/spinmove 9d ago
As a casual fan surely you have to fire this umpire right? If you make a call that blatantly wrong and can't see it how can your judgment be trusted for anything?
1
u/g_scotty_brahms 10d ago
Have they interviewed the fan? Was the fan trying to get Boone kicked out by imitating Boone’s voice.
1
u/cashrchek 10d ago
Not a Boone fan at all, but this was fucking ridiculous and the ump should be disciplined. You can't pretend to be neutral when you're ejecting a guy for something he demonstrably did not do and then say you don't even care.

Umpires have helped the sport get worse bc they don’t do anything but ruin the game coming up with bs to kick people out and the new rules don’t help either
0
u/fied1219 10d ago
Maybe if he wasn't Karen Boone he would have got the benefit of the doubt. But the dude bitches and whines so much ain't no ump gonna believe him.
1
u/chiasmatic Brooklyn Dodgers 10d ago
The problem I have is the ump doesn’t even pretend to say that he’s throwing Boone out because he thought it was Boone saying that shit, but the fact that he says I don’t care goes to degrade the integrity umps need to have
1
u/rogerworkman623 10d ago
Why are MLB umpires completely incapable of admitting they made a mistake? Especially in a situation like this. It wouldn't even be embarrassing, it would be funny. "Oh ha, I thought that was you yelling! My bad". Are all of their egos really that fragile?
1
u/Happily-neverafter 10d ago
So it turns out the ump either wants to be the new Joe West or he’s doing an Angel Hernandez impersonation 🤭

To be fair I’d also tell Boone to shut the fuck up when he isn’t talking

Hey, Hunter. Did anyone ever tell you you look like a penis with that little hat on?
1
u/Knotashock 10d ago
For fs... Are we playing baseball or having a dissertation on free speech. Hunter needs a new job as a TSA agent or CIA wire tap operator. Seriously are we starting a side game called how fast can we eject Boone, dayum!

Angel Hernandez watching this: "Gotta pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers in this racket."

u/scroungearounge 10d ago
Give credit to the MLB supporting inclusivity by hiring a blind and deaf ump.

Umps are payed not to make mistake like cops. Anyone who has so much power over others doesn’t get to make mistakes. We demand the best or get out.
1
u/Boredsoireddit1 10d ago
Just replace the umps with computers already. But like big ass robot computers.
3
u/ceric2099 10d ago
I don’t know anything about baseball but the umpire pisses me off.
Does he get in trouble, penalized, suspended, or reduced hours for being a moron?

u/yankeedjw New York Yankees 10d ago
Baseball umps have a very strong union and very rarely have any consequences for bad performances.
1
u/BadTiger85 Detroit Tigers 10d ago
This is a wake up call for the MLB. You need to start punishing umpires for their unchecked egos

What is going on with umpires they are way out of control with insanely bad calls and look I’m the center of attention antics
1
u/Deep-Management-7040 10d ago
Fucking umpires, they wield too much power. They should have Judge Dreads of baseball that are at each game and can override the umpires

u/WhatsUpSteve New York Yankees 10d ago
I feel like umps are just collectively gaslighting Aaron Boone.
1
u/bwood3217 10d ago
i really wish they could get rid of umpires ability to throw anybody out of any game at any time for any reason.
2
u/ColtsNetsSharks Milwaukee Brewers 10d ago
Aaron Boone is literally the only manager this could happen to lol

Baseball umpires are the real snowflakes. Nobody is as fragile as a baseball ump.

u/TitoForever 10d ago
What prevented him to go back to his seat and tell the umpire to stop the game if he's so sure? I would just have said to force me out of the stadium if he wanted me to leave.
2
u/buy-american-you-fuk 10d ago
fuking AI the balls and strikes already, and we can get rid of these friggin ego maniacs once and for all... who needs some chump throwing a game when we already have the tech to make things fair

Why do umpires hide behind the name umpire? Shouldn't the bad ones be called out?
1
u/ArousedLobster 10d ago
I hope someone breaks hunters legs while he's out enjoying a day with his family
2
u/TipFine3928 10d ago
See what’s happening is that official is being bribed. Stupidity can explain some of what’s happening in sports. But this is malice.

u/Big_lt 10d ago
I really hope both the MLB and Umpire Union respond and call this crap out. It'll never happen but I can wish.
Honestly if the ump said, after the fact, that "I heard a voice in the general direction of Boone and I tossed him for that. After the replay I was wrong and I will do better in the future" this entire thing would be done

Im assuming the umpire gets fired for this because basically this is one step away from match fixing?
Unless im missing important context because i don't follow baseball?

That's some bullshit. There really needs to be recourse for shitty umpire behavior.

The umpire can’t even add up that it’s the first inning. Boone isn’t even paying attention yet.

I dont know how this hit my front page. But it's officiating like this, from little league to the majors, that doesn't allow me to take baseball seriously. With the available technology, there is no reason for umpires to exist anymore.

MLB is so screwed. Their hope for the future is Ohtani and now that is tarnished.
2
u/UsefulAd175 10d ago
I may be crazy, but maybe try the calm approach before going full irate, ticked-off ranting dude. After watching a few decades of sports, I can’t recall one time the latter approach changed anything.
1
u/Warcraft_Fan 10d ago
Any chance the umpire is the same person who referee'd Detroit Lion's loss last fall?
1
1
u/Medarco 10d ago
I have to credit these coaches and players. They show tremendous restraint when this kind of stuff happens. Significant decision like that just moments into the game? Unbelievable.
Violence is never the answer, but boy if it wouldn't be satisfying to watch a bullshit ref get clocked by someone that had enough.

Hunter W. is an MLB Umpire only because of his father. Speaking as a professional umpire - he thinks that he is bigger than the game.
1
u/Salt_Advertisment 10d ago
Not really a baseball fan, what's the actual recourse after something like this? Can he demand that the UMP not be allowed to officiate any of his games anymore? Can he tell the UMP that he's not going anywhere because he didn't do anything wrong?
1
u/DadSoRad 10d ago
Baseball is such a silly sport. Why do they not use instant replay for everything? Why is so much power give to some fat fuck standing behind the plate. Shit is culty, not sporty.

Umpires are getting way too emotional and trying to be protagonist far more often than they should. We need roboumps asap because this is getting silly.

Aaron Boone thinking, ‘Dang, I need a manicure..’ “YER OUTA HERE!!!” “WHAT???”
Fekin refs are OUT OF FEKING CONTROL any more. FEK them a-holes.

Keep in mind that there are about 2400 MLB games per season, and about 300 pitches per game. That’s 720,000 opportunities to produce the clips you’re seeing in a single season.

u/Areacode08 10d ago
Why do umps act like they're the third team on the field? Shouldn't the goal of refs and umps be to not be seen nor heard on the field/court/ring/whatever? Umps seem to have an ego larger than some of the players.
But then again, i'm from a country where baseball is a marginal sport and football(soccer for you yanks) and hockey are the big sports.

This take is gonna be Carolina Reaper hot: I don't hate it. What Boone was originally arguing was a super 50/50 call on a swing, and then tries to tell Wendelstedt he should've made the call when it's not his call to make. Boone needs to control himself cause holy shit that is the most annoying thing to say right when the game starts, like you're wrong the whole way.

The fact umpires can't undo an ejection even if they wanted to is BS

Just boycott baseball until the umpires are replaced. This is just awful and embarrassing.
0
u/masturbator_123 10d ago
Not really a baseball guy. Why do they let the coaches talk to the umps? Just say "you can't talk to the ump or you're out." The coach talking to the ump never seems to do anything useful...what is the point?

Time to replace the useless fucking umpires with computers. Their errors and power trips are affecting the game far too much at this point.

If you are an anti-union crusader this would be evidence #1 in that cause (minus Angel Hernandez of course). How does this fat fucker still have a job? Fire his ass tomorrow. Worthless pathetic attention seeking micro-p loser that's a disgrace to the game. Also this addled boomer is mentioning the "olden days" when Marvin Hudson got to the league things might have been different... am I crazy or did quick toss Hunter start umpiring in MLB before Hudson did? I know Manfred hates baseball but come on already my man do something about this. Fyi hope the Yankees lose every game every year but not this way
